Position Summary
Responsible for coordinating accounting activities within the organization. Assignments include researching accounting literature and principles, developing solutions to complex financial and accounting tasks, advising executive management on strategic initiates, maintaining journals and ledgers and preparing financial statements and reports. Day to day activities will include maintaining reserves, developing recommendations and strategies for accounting projects, collecting and evaluating data, conducting analysis, preparing reports, and reviewing and approving transactions.
Duties and Responsibilities
This position will be called upon to be a technical expert. Candidate will be tasked with a variety of complex accounting projects that will require interaction with senior management, other departments, and other members of the accounting and financial operations teams.
Solid understanding and application of accounting principles, concepts, practices and standards. Provides technical advice, research and direction for maintaining proper accounting practices.
Conducts independent research and applies analytical and problem solving skills to lead and complete numerous and diverse highly complex accounting / finance projects.
Develops and coordinates the implementation of complex accounting and accounting control procedures. Designs operational procedures and processes that meet audit standards and improve efficiency.
Keeps abreast of new developments in financial accounting and government regulations. Informs management of changes and provides recommendations for implementation.
Participates in the preparation of the profit and loss statements, balance sheet, cash flow statement, consolidated financials, monthly closing and cost accounting reports.
Oversees the control of general ledger accounts, job cost accounting and records. Recommends modifications in the chart of accounts, cost systems and other practices to meet changing trends and conditions.
Ensures all cost and revenue transactions are recorded in accordance with GAAP, Cost Accounting Standards (CAS), the Federal Acquisition Regulations (FAR) and in accordance with company policies and procedures.
Approves at-risk transactions, journal entries, Manual Revenue Adjustments (MRA), suspense, AP corrections, and timecard corrections.
High level of understanding of financial databases and computer software system functionality. Utilizes database queries and other tools to research and resolve problems. Reviews accounting and related system reports for accuracy and completeness.
Interfaces with internal and external auditors in coordinating and completing audits.
Complies with all applicable accounting and governmental regulations.
Reviews situations that are being handled by other members of the accounting team and provides assistance and expertise as needed.
Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Education and Experience
Bachelor's degree in related discipline and 5 to 7 years of directly related experience, preferably in government contracting environment.
Experience in the Government Contracting industry is a plus.
Knowledge Skills, Abilities
Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills as this position will be advising senior and executive management
Expert knowledge of finance, accounting, budgeting, and cost control principles including GAAP and a working knowledge of international accounting standards
Working knowledge and understanding of Government CAS and FAR.
Strong knowledge of financial and accounting software applications
Strong working knowledge of Microsoft applications.
Ability to analyze highly complex financial data and prepare financial reports, statements and projections.
