Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary

Under general supervision, provides moderately complex research and analysis of various aspects of cognitive science and human performance research projects from problem definition through product delivery. Develops related findings, conclusions, and recommendations and presents information to client.

Duties and Responsibilities          

Conducts technical investigations involving the origination or modification of material, component or process specifications and requirements.

Responsible for planning, organizing and conducting scientific projects or phases of projects involving design and development of new or improved product and/or processes.

Defines and conducts moderately complex scientific measurements and experiments. Records and evaluates data.

Develops models describing technical phenomena; evaluates available analytical models for application to specific areas of analyses. Performs moderately complex analysis and trouble-shooting.

Responsible for the setup, assembly, use, maintenance, and calibration of equipment and processes.

Interacts with sponsor staff responsible for monitoring projects.  Reviews progress and defines project priorities, schedules and objectives. Develops and maintains frequent contacts with customers.

Assists in identifying opportunities for new program initiatives and follow-on tasking for current projects and participates in proposal efforts.

Acts as liaison with other departments, divisions, and organizations.

Regularly participates in the activities of professional societies.

Prepares and assists others in the development of status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contact reports, technical analyses or other outputs needed.

Prepares and provides formal briefings to staff and customers and participates in technical discussions at project review sessions and in negotiations with the customer.

May act as task leader in efforts that are moderately complex in scope.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor's degree (required) or Master’s degree (desired) in Psychology or other cognitive science or a related scientific discipline plus 4 years of related experience.  In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived . Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to think critically.

Knowledge of cognitive science principles, theories, and established methodologies sufficient to perform the full range of duties involved in conducting research projects.

An active secret security clearance is required.
