Job Description

Alion is currently seeking a Data Engineer, Associate. The ideal candidate believes in exploring alternatives and quickly prototyping to validate hypothetical architectures or solutions 

In this position, you will:

  • Significantly contribute to the development of custom data pipelines and integration of capabilities into a scalable cloud based production platform.
  • Design and implement core architecture and capabilities for data management and processing from prototype to operational applications.
  • Apply experience working within an Agile software development life cycle, including sprint planning, sprints, sprint review, etc

 

Required Skills:

  • BA/BS Degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Mathematics, or similar. 
  • 0- 2 years of experience with an emphasis on creating and integrating data pipelines.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted for applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
  • Experience in streaming and/or batch analytics (e.g. Kafka, Spark, Flink, Storm, MapReduce, Hadoop)
  • Experience in distributed databases, SQL databases, full text-search engines (e.g. Elasticsearch)
  • Experience in designing enterprise APIs
  • Experience in RESTful web services
  • Experience in Microservices architecture
  • Experience in cloud based technologies (AWS, Azure)
  • Have a solid understanding of Linux systems, hosts, networks, security, applications and proficiency in shell scripting (Shell/Bash, JavaScript, Python).
  • Strong analytic skills with the ability to analyze complex data 
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with mongodb and other noSQl databases, to include graph databases.
  • Experience with AWS and their services is highly desired (e.g. Lambda, Kinesis, DynamoDB, RDS, AES).
  • Knowledge of machine learning toolsets: Tensorflow, Keras, Caffe2, Apache MXNet.
  • Data parsing/transforming techniques to include JSON, XML, CSV formats.
  • Understanding of AGILE software development methodologies and use of standard software development tool suites. (e.g., JIRA, Confluence, Github Enterprise, etc.)
