Position Summary:

Alion Science and Technology is seeking a hands-on DevOps Engineer who will lead the way for our DevOps environment. Will work with a small team of developers and UX personnel utilizing iterative design/develop/field spirals for research and development projects structured to improve and modernize the Airborne Warning And Control System (AWACS) software systems.

The ideal engineer will bring their experiences, best practices, and a collaborative attitude to help drive DevOps initiatives. To be successful, one must effectively communicate with our development and operations team to orchestrate the creation of solutions that can scale. The responsibilities include building a process for automation as well as contributing to the development of internal tools to achieve operational efficiency. 

The team will include a product owner team to evaluate necessary user functions, provide early designs and workflows such as wire frames, mock-ups, and/or interactive prototypes, codify and prioritize developmental features, and evaluate technical debt from existing off-the-shelf systems We will be developing any required software, application interfaces and integrate commercial and Government off-the-shelf software from design to documentation, with possible field support.

The team will be composed of personnel with a broad range of skills to include familiarity/experience with Java and C++, Scala (Spark, Akka, or Kafka experience) Erlang (Elixir or LFE), JavaScript Object Notation and Python.  Expectation that MATLAB and Simulink will be used to simulate end devices during development efforts.  Work will be done in contractor spaces in unclassified environment.

Responsibilities

  • As part of a team implement DevOps infrastructure projects
  • Design and implement secure automation solutions for development, testing, and production environments
  • Build and deploy automation, monitoring, and analysis solutions
  • Manage our continuous integration and delivery pipeline to maximize efficiency
  • Implement industry best practices for system hardening and configuration management
  • Develop and maintain solutions for operational administration, system/data backup, disaster recovery, and security/performance monitoring
  • Continuously evaluate existing systems with industry standards, and make recommendations for improvement

Education and Qualifications:

  Bachelor’s or Master's degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or related field, and 4 plus years’ experience.

  Strong knowledge of configuration management tools

  Proficiency in scripting languages such as Python and JavaScript

 Strong communication and documentation skills

 An ability to drive to goals and milestones while valuing and maintaining a strong attention to detail

  Excellent judgment, analytical thinking, and problem-solving skills

  Full understanding of software development lifecycle best practices

  Self-motivated individual that possesses excellent time management and organizational skills

US Citizenship and eligible for National Agency Check. Secret clearance accepted.
