Job Description

Alion Science and Technology is looking for qualified candidates with diverse backgrounds in Digital Engineering (DE),  Model Based Systems Engineering(MBSE), and Test and Evaluation (T&E) to support the Scientific Test and Analysis Techniques Center of Excellence (STAT COE), located at Air Force Institute of Technology (AFIT) at Wright-Patterson Air Force Base, Ohio.

Do you want to work in a rapidly growing organization that directly supports T&E across the Department of Defense and other government organizations?  The ideal candidate has experience in DE, MBSE, and an interest in how T&E supports them.  Backgrounds in acquisition and statistics are desirable, but not required.

The STAT COE was founded to support T&E through the following activities:

  • Provide statistical/T&E expertise to acquisition program and research projects
  • Lead development of test strategies, technical test designs, and post-test analysis
  • Employ various techniques and methods such as design of experiments, Bayesian analysis, regression modeling, and reliability planning
  • Employ statistical software (e.g. JMP, DesignExpert, R, Matlab or equivalent)
  • Engage and mentor T&E practitioners in STAT processes and technical test design
  • Communicate solutions to leadership orally and in writing, clearly and accurately
  • Provide specific recommendations, best practices, case studies, and lessons learned and post at https://www.afit.edu/STAT

These efforts have created a demand to apply our T&E expertise to emerging requirements including autonomous systems, artificial intelligence, DevSecOps, automated software testing, and digital engineering.

We are looking for a candidate to lead our efforts to define how T&E supports DoD acquisition programs exploring DE.  We have already initiated this effort with the development of the concept of Model Readiness Level that continuously validates and evaluates models based on multiple criteria each time it moves onto or is requested from a digital thread.  Other potential efforts include how does MBSE inform the T&E strategy, identification of standardization needs for data and models, and validation of models before hardware is produced.

The STAT COE provides tremendous professional growth opportunities to improve your technical knowledge, hone your practical skills, and broaden your experience. The STAT COE is a collaborative and energetic workplace where members discuss challenges, work together to solve problems, and provide practical products to our customers.

Requirements:

  • Ability to obtain a TOP SECRET clearance
  • MS or PhD in systems engineering, industrial engineering, operations research, engineering discipline, or similar field
  • Recent experience in model based systems engineering or digital engineering tools including CAMEO or SysML like tools
  • Desired: Experience with Defense T&E
  • Desired: Experience with Defense Acquisition
