Alion is currently seeking a highly self-motivated Electronics Assembly Technician to join our Tactical Sensor Systems team in Syracuse, NY. We are looking for a candidate who can make an immediate impact as part of the development, assembly and manufacturing team. In this role, you will work with a group of highly-skilled engineers and support personnel to build and manufacture complex electronic devices for military applications.

Applicant will have substantial understanding of the job and applies knowledge and skills to complete a wide range of tasks. Works on assignments that are moderately difficult, requiring judgment in resolving issues or in making recommendations. Normally receives little instruction on daily work, general instructions on newly introduced assignments. Typically requires a minimum of 5 - 8 years of related experience. Lays out, builds, tests, repairs and modifies developmental and production electronic components, parts, equipment, and systems, such as computer equipment, RF equipment, test equipment, and machine tool numerical controls, applying principles and theories of electronics, electrical circuitry, engineering mathematics, electronic and electrical testing. Discusses layout and assembly procedures and problems with engineering team and draws sketches to clarify design details and functional criteria of electronic units. Assembles experimental circuitry or complete prototype model according to engineering instructions, technical manuals, and knowledge of electronic systems and components. Recommends changes in circuitry or installation specifications to simplify assembly and maintenance. Sets up standard test apparatus or devises test equipment and circuitry to conduct functional, operational, environmental, and life tests to evaluate performance and reliability of prototype or production model. May operate bench lathes, drills, saws or other machine tools to fabricate parts, such as coils, terminal boards, chassis and support structures. Applicant will be responsible for maintaining and enforcing laboratory safety and developing/maintaining laboratory policies.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Ability to fabricate complex military cables and harnesses (containing shielded and unshielded wires, coax, tri-ax, etc.) with crimp, solder, and other industry standard termination methods.
  • Able to read and follow engineering drawings and parts list
  • Ability to logically lay-out prototype chassis and assemblies from general, verbal or written instructions.
  • Use hand and power tools to build, disassemble, modify, rework, reassemble and test circuit card assemblies (CCA), as required
  • Perform quality inspections and continuity checks on completed units
  • Strong knowledge and experience with ESD and electrostatic discharge safety practices and ISO/OSHA safety standards.
  • Ability to work flexible schedule
  • Chemical use and safety experience with knowledge of shelf-life.
  • 5 years soldering experience in complex circuit card assemblies.
     

Desired Skills:
IPC J-STD-001 Solder Certification (Active or recently expired)

IPC-A-610 Acceptability of Electronic Assemblies (Active or recently expired)

IPC-A-620 Space or NASA-STD-8739.4 Cable Harness Certification (Active or recently expired).

Circuit board rework experience including red wire application

Machine shop experience (machining, milling, drilling, sanding bending, fabricating metal)
