 Position Summary

This position supports an intelligence community customer storage site with a staff of between 20 - 30 made up of both government employees and contractors. The site
receives equipment from contractors, conducts test and inspection activities on new equipment, on equipment being prepared for issue and on equipment returned after use.
Other technical staff build equipment components that support unique equipment configuration requirements.

Conceives, investigates, evaluates, and makes recommendations for new equipment, tooling and processes to improve safety, reliability, capacity and reduce costs. Investigates and analyzes unique or highly technical manufacturing or industrial engineering assignments and provides technical assistance in establishing operational procedures and methods.  Performs technical surveillance of a complex nature in the control of product, design concepts, and specification requirements.  Evaluates engineering changes and determines appropriate labor or equipment standards to meet specification requirements. Utilizes systematic problem solving and data collection to identify and resolve problems, including driving cost and downtime reduction. Leads and/or participates in health, safety, environmental, production, material control, Sig Sigma and R&D project teams. Writes weekly activity and project reports, develops action plans, and generates work instructions, test procedures and other documentation to support production operations.

Evaluate and develop/design manufacturing processes that support producing components/products at low rates that are required by the customer.

Apply knowledge of product design, fabrication, assembly, tooling and materials using data provided by equipment and material vendors and observations/feedback from the staff.

Provide guidance to technical staff on production techniques.

Improve production efficiency by analyzing and planning workflow, space utilization and process layout.

Support Component and Product quality by establishing standards, designing and conducting tests and determining why products/components fail to meet standards.

Devise automation systems to collect data and improve processes.  Collect, analyze and summarize information to determine production trends.

Keep equipment operational by developing and implementing routine inspection and preventative maintenance routines and by coordinating maintenance and repair services.

Using knowledge of health and safety laws and standards, keep work environments and the staff that works in them safe from harm.

Develop and train staff on safety policies and requirements.

Performs other duties as assigned.

BS in Manufacturing Engineering or a related engineering field.  10 or more years of experience in low rate, custom component/product production in metal, plastics and composites and wood

Familiarity and experience with low rate production of components and products in electronics, metal, plastics and composites and with the machinery that produces these components/products

Experience with leading safety programs in a similar environment

Credential from the Board of Certified Safety Professionals desired

Additive manufacturing experience highly desired.
