Job Description

Exciting Opportunity! Stop and read!

The Air Force Institution of Technology (AFIT), in partnership with the Department of Homeland Security (DHS), formed a Homeland Security Community of Best Practices (HS CoBP) team to assemble/lead a community of government, industry, and academic experts

The HS CoBP team at AFIT is seeking a software computer science or software engineer to become a strategic partner of a dedicated “think-tank” team to support homeland defense Test and Evaluation (T&E) initiatives at the AFIT. The candidate will function as a knowledge integrator and leverage their personal knowledge, experience, and education to bring together the best technical, operations, and T&E subject matter experts, from across the country, to participate in prestigious strategic/technical roundtable events. The roundtable events will assess the current and future state of a DHS technical topic to determine candidate research initiatives leading to innovative T&E Best Practices. The T&E Best Practices will anticipate the development of new DHS technologies (3-10 years out) in response to rapidly changing homeland threats. The candidate will manage researchers and integrate new best practices into critical area guidebooks for use by the DHS acquisition programs.

Require:

  • Part-time or full-time! Candidate selection will balance education against highly specialized knowledge or unique experiences
  • Master or above with certifications, published, and 5+ years’ experience in any Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math discipline
  • Information Technology systems experience in any aspect of new technology hardware/software development, cyber security and resilience, artificial intelligence, autonomous systems, cloud technologies, systems reliability, edge/distributed computing, big data, or the like a plus
  • The skill to 1) think analytically/strategically; 2) conduct technical research and write authoritatively; and 3) communicate technical and complex issues

Security Clearance:

Candidates must be a U.S. Citizen. The position is unclassified but may require the candidate to obtain a higher-level U.S. Government clearance.
