Job Description

Position Summary: 

Provide oversight management and implementation of windows update client/server system and 3rd-Party patches on all applicable USAFE-AFAFRICA Warfare Center (UAWC) Enclaves. Specifically:

Job Duties:

    • Leverage available enterprise tools (i.e. Microsoft's Windows System Update Services (WSUS), System Center Configuration Manager (SCCM), SolarWinds Patch Manager)
    • Ensure applicable security patches/updates are deployed on a monthly/weekly basis or as per customer requirements
    • Ensuring the system is operational and functional within necessary parameters for the applicable network.
    • Ensuring associated component applications are correctly configured and functional.
    • Ensuring update listings are synchronized from upper level server in accordance with the configured schedule
    • Ensuring update(s) are approved as needed for the network's associated deployed windows applications and operating systems.
    • Provide system administration and technical engineering advice supporting enterprise services for ~seven disparate classified/unclassified networks related to USAFE-AFAFRICA Warfare Center (UAWC) mission. Implements all aspects of secure operations, maintenance, and lifecycle management for enterprise servers/services, workstations, thin-client terminals and network devices employing VOIP services, virtualization technologies (i.e. VMware vSphere/Microsoft Hyper-V), Red Hat, Microsoft’s Server 2012 R2/2016 and Windows client operating systems.
    • Ensure the confidentiality, integrity, and continuous availability of UAWC exercise enclaves and Active Directory Services (ADS) enterprise environments using industry-standard monitoring software tools and techniques. 
    • Interpret and implements as required DoD/DISA, USAF/USAFE and local organization policies, as well as installs vendor software updates and other security patches affecting Coalition, Kaiserslautern Enterprise Network, UAWC and Joint Training and Experimentation Network (JTEN) community.
    • Analyze system fault tolerance strategies across several server platforms, and engineers testing strategies for on-site and off-site data storage and recovery. Troubleshoots system anomalies and documents software change requests.


Bachelor’s degree in related discipline plus 2 to 4 years of directly related experience. Professional certification(s) may be required.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 8 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Familiar with the principles, methods, and techniques used in network design and development.
  • Familiar with modems, data scopes, patch panels, concentrators, associated terminals, and network management software.
  • Knowledge of desktop operating systems and applications.
  • Must have Active Secret
