RF Engineer Lead

Job Description:

Alion is currently seeking a highly self-motivated RF Engineer to join our Tactical Sensor Systems team in Syracuse, NY. We are looking for a candidate who can make an immediate impact as part of the research and development, assembly and manufacturing team. In this role, you will work with a group of highly-skilled engineers and support personnel design, debug, develop and productize complex electronic devices for military applications.

The RF Engineer responsibilities may include RF front-end design, radio propagation modeling and prediction, microwave path analysis, interference analysis and filter design, frequency coordination, analog-to-digital converters, digital-to-analog converters and circuit design. Develops products and technologies related to wireless telecommunications by applying RF and mixed signal capabilities. Works closely with entry and mid-level engineers and develops growth within the team. Develops and executes product testing and integration plans for new or updated products. Being a RF Engineer works autonomously with minimal direction.  May provide a leadership role for the work group through knowledge in the area of specialization typically RADAR, electronic warfare and communications. Works on advanced, complex technical projects or business issues requiring state of the art technical or industry knowledge.

Basic Qualifications:

  • Strong knowledge of RF test equipment and test methods. Ability to develop test procedures.
  • Wireless communications engineer or systems engineer with wireless communications expertise
  • Strong knowledge of RF and Digital Signal Processing engineering, technologies, and techniques
  • Practical, hands-on experience building RF communication proof of concepts and prototypes
  • Experience with the development and delivery of RF payloads and/or subsystems
  • Experience developing and analyzing technical requirements, performing trade studies, and allocating functions down to RF payloads, subsystems and/or components
  • Experience defining and analyzing end-to-end performance of RF payloads and/or subsystems, consistent with mission needs and CONOPS
  • Bachelor’s degree and 9 years of experience, or a Master’s degree and 7 years of experience.
  • A team player with the demonstrated ability to participate in cross functional teams and communicate and coordinate work as one team with common goals
  • Excellent communication and interpersonal skills, including a demonstrated ability to interact effectively with customers, suppliers, management, and peers.
  • Ability to generate PCB design constraints relative to RF and analog circuits including power supplies, power distribution network, trace impedance, guard traces, cross-talk, intend and unintended radiators.
  • Security Clearance Requirements: Must be a U.S. citizen. Applicants selected may be subject to a government security investigation and must meet eligibility requirements for access to classified information.

Desired Skills:

  • Experience with DoD protected wireless communications systems and waveforms
  • Experience leading small multi-discipline teams of engineers and scientists
  • Track record of successful research and development projects in RF Communications
  • Experience representing an organization as the technical lead for research activities, interfacing with internal and external customers and program leadership.
  • Experience in RADAR, Electronic Warfare and Communications.
  • Proficient in antenna theory, modeling, testing and analysis
  • Proficiency with analytical and model & simulation tools such as MATLAB, STK, etc.
  • Proficiency with RF link performance modeling and analysis
  • Proven ability to execute major milestone reviews (e.g. SRR, PDR, CDR, etc.).
  • Experience in design of analog, digital, and RF circuits including FPGAs, Processors, filters, amplifiers, ADCs/DACs
  • PCB Design Experience including parts selection, architecture, schematic capture, layout constraints, PCB layout
  • Create design documentation including: Schematics, Parts Lists, Wiring Diagrams, Block Diagrams, and Mechanical Drawings to be used in a Technical Data Package
