Position Summary

The Joint Staff J7 Data Strategy lead provides program vision and technical standards level guidance to the team that develops and deploys the enterprise data services and training repositories that support Joint Training activities. Joint Training requires data to define the operational environment including terrain, geospatial, force structure, logistics, unit & platform characteristics, weapons and sensor parametrics, human geography, weather and bathymetry.

This job is for experienced scientists in one of the technical, science or analytical fields, who has gained substantial experience in, but not limited to, supporting large projects related to the individual subject matter expertise.  Relevant experience includes, but is not limited to, experience in supporting large projects related to the individuals subject matter expertise. These senior personnel are experts in a field of study and research, including, but not limited to physics, nuclear science, aerospace, advanced information processing, weapons science, intelligence, and with a number of years of experience. Has some experience as leaders and Project Managers. Prepares and delivers presentations to colleagues, subordinates, and government representatives.  Assures the proper use of current or requested programming, testing and documentation techniques.  They produce and/or review substantive and/or complex  documentation reflecting detailed knowledge of  areas as identified in the statement of work.

Duties and Responsibilities         

Designs and guides the establishment of standards within the program to ensure a unified approach to data products and capabilities that eliminates redundancy and improves overall efficiency.

Engages external communities to encourage alignment to common standards that improve interoperability within the joint training communities and the DoD training community at large.

Promotes standards and tools developed within JSJ7 to user communities and development programs to encourage adoption of JSJ7 capabilities and reduces desire to drive towards duplicative technology.

Evolves internal development efforts and data standards to meet current training audience needs and incorporate latest industry technologies.

Education and Experience

Masters’s degree in a related field plus 12 to 15 years of directly related experience. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to comprehend and present complex technical capabilities to audiences of varied levels of technical understanding.

15 years of professional experience in M&S or DoD software system design is desired.

Strong written and oral communication skills and ability to work in a team environment is required.

Military domain experience is a plus.

Interface with customers on a daily basis.
