Position Summary:

This entry level Computer Engineer / Computer Science / Software Engineer position with 0 - 2 years experience requirement is ideal for the recent or relatively recent college graduate. This position provides support to the Software Engineering Center within the U.S. Army's Ground Vehicle Systems Center (formerly known as TARDEC) at the Detroit Arsenal in Warren, Michigan, supporting software engineering / development in support of embedded software products for military applications.

Job Duties:

  • Under immediate supervision, assists in performing the analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and implementation of software application programs in support of distinct product hardware or technical service lines of business.
  • Assist in defining specifications for software programming applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing programs to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.
  • Perform all necessary aspects of the programming phase of software development including coding, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards.
  • Draft architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.
  • Participate in the development of test plans. Tests assigned components and units, and provides test results.
  • Identify and directs resolution of hardware/software interface issues or other technical problems.
  • Research and develops prospective applications and products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Assist in the writing of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.
  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Familiar with the principles, practices, and procedures used in software and systems development.
  • Experience with software development tools and programming languages.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a SECRET clearance.


  • A Bachelor's Degree in an engineering or computer science discipline with relevant course work in software engineering development from an educational institution accredited or recognized by the U. S. Department of Education is required.
  • The candidate must have experience (may be academic) developing software in C, C++, C#, or Java.
  • Additional optional experience with Linux, Robot Operating System, Joint Architecture for Unmanned Systems, Machine Learning or other AI competency area, Javascript, Node.js, Angular, User Interface Development Frameworks such as QT will help the candidate stand out.
