Position Summary

The Software Design Engineer Internship is a temporary position within Alion which prepares a college student for entry into the workforce by providing emphasis on training and experience related to a student's educational discipline which is applicable to the business needs of the company. The position is for college students who are rising sophomores or juniors in their academic program.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Under the guidance of a mentor, assist the development team on improvements and maintenance of different training systems
  • Work with Infrastructure in the deployment process and tracking of issues with deployed systems
  • Assist Cybersecurity in risk mitigation efforts across different systems
  • Participate on project teams in prototype and experimental projects
  • May support the overall project team in administrative tasks such as system documentation and user training materials
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Must currently be enrolled as a student in an accredited public or private college or university. Preference for software and computer engineering degrees. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities 

  • Familiarity with programming languages, for example C/C++, JAVA
  • Familiarity with Agile development methodologies
  • Familiarity with web development and architecture is a plus
  • Good writing, communication and listening skills.                                                                                          
  • Good critical thinking and problem solving skills.
  • Must be diligent, hardworking and a fast learner.
  • Desires to gain professional experience and is eager to learn.
