Job Description

Alion Science & Technology seeking an exceptionally talented Solution Architect who will provide the technical vision for our enterprise solutions supporting data-intensive initiatives.  Their aim is to offer solutions that improve the business operations in line with enterprise goals and strategy.


  • The candidate will be responsible for partnering and collaborating with internal stakeholders, executives, business architects and implementation team members to define and communicate the technical vision, enable incremental architecture and design, and provide oversight to implementation teams to ensure their emerging design enables the technical vision
  • Must possess data analytics skills and experience, using continuous feedback and learning to enable incremental delivery, minimize waste, and increase value by ensuring alignment of technical solutions with business needs. The goal is to enable business-driven IT architectures, supported by analysis of current state / target state transformations, and target state option selection.
  • The successful candidate will have relevant experience in enterprises analysis, data analysis and solution assessment and validation techniques and can quickly adapt to the custom Agile framework. 
  • Must possess excellent logic, situational awareness, attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, and an urgent drive to make a difference.
  • Must be able to recognize the corporate strategy and realize all business processes that define how an enterprise achieves its strategic goals.
  • Responsible for understanding technical specifics and work between various business layers.
  • Ability to apply model-driven development principles, incremental architecture and design, data modeling and analysis.
  • Respond to new tactical demands with proactive, upfront impact analysis.
  • Rapidly assimilate and understand complex data flow, system interactions, and business processes, offering solutions based on data analytics as needed.
  • Ability to adopt an Agile mindset. Fluent at inspecting and adapting, applying feedback to influence near-term and long-term decisions in order to optimize value.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment and to support multiple projects.
  • Strong ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to create consensus and understanding around the proposed architecture.
  • Develop and maintain a trusted partnership with the stakeholders, executives, business architects and implementation team members.
  • Translate technical information and concepts into non-technical language.


  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, Data Analytics or relevant discipline.
  • Master’s degree in Data Analytics or relevant discipline preferred.
  • 10 -15 years of relevant experience supporting teams within a complex, fast-paced, data-intensive, milestone-driven environment.
  • Unified Modeling Language (UML) or other relevant modeling frameworks and tools.
  • Common architectural design patterns, transforming legacy data and systems to a modernized platform.
  • Experience with system architecture, design, and testing.
  • Detailed hands-on experience and understanding of medium to large system developments/ modernizations.
  • Experience with reviewing business context for solutions to business challenges as well as defining the technical vision and requirements for the solution, recommending potential options, (which may include prototype development), selecting the most optimal option, and the technical development of a roadmap for the selected solution.
  • Experience working closely with other architects, analysts and project teams, leveraging the ability to listen, advise, empathize and explain.
  • Experience in identifying options that are influenced by constraints of non-functional requirements, business milestones, standards, policies, total cost of ownership and technology maturity.
  • Proficiency with information technologies in a secure network environment.
  • Current understanding of best practices regarding enterprise level system security measures.
  • Fluent in all MS Office applications.
