System Administrator - Orlando, FL

The Navy Air Warfare Command (NAWC) air trainer System Administrator is responsible for design, engineering, administration, deployment and maintenance of the Navy’s Fleet Synthetic Training Air Enterprise Tactical Training Network (FETTN) client and server infrastructure used to support the development, testing, and delivery of enterprise-wide modeling and simulation applications, virtual trainers and services for Fleet Training.

Duties and Responsibilities

The candidate will work in close coordination with the NAWC Training System Division (NAWCTSD) Engineering team to design, engineer, administer, deploy and maintain an exercise trainer transport network for Navy Aviation training. The system administrator will work with Windows and Linux in a virtual environment, remote management, DHCP and DNS, controls for cyber security scanning and patching, vulnerability management, systems installation such as VOIP, VTC, servers and clients and interfaces, amongst others. The administrator will support the engineering team on-site in a lab research and development environment and work closely with other engineering disciplines such as networking and cyber security. Individual must be able to work independently as work within a team.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline
  • 2 to 4 or more years of experience in systems administration
  • Experience administering Windows (WIN10) and Linux (RHEL 6/7)
  • Experience with VMware
  • Experience with patching servers and workstations/clients
  • Security+ and an OS certification will be required within the first 120 days if the candidate does not have them already
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years of applicable work experience.

  • Active DoD SECRET Clearance
  • Ability to read and digest technical information
  • Ability to troubleshoot technical issues within multiple systems
  • Strong attention to detail
  • Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities
  • Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

Desired Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

  • Familiarity with VDI technologies and protocols
  • Experience with Windows Servers 2012R2/2016
  • Familiarity and experience with cyber security such as scanning, patching, DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)
  • Security+ and an OS certification
