Job Description

Position Summary

Responsible for the continuous operation of complex servers, networks and related infrastructure supporting information systems. Installs new software releases, patches, updates and manages the overall configuration to ensure it is up to date and secure. Develops backup and recovery procedures and disaster recovery plans.

Duties and Responsibilities          

Maintains smooth operation of complex multi-user computer systems, including coordination with network administrators. Manages multiple Virtual Machine (VM) based servers hosting multiple engineering based configuration management and license servers.

Management, maintenance, and deployment of engineering configuration management tools and license servers.

Installs new software releases, system upgrades, evaluates and installs patches and resolves complex software related problems.

Uses systems management software to monitor servers and applications, troubleshooting problems and coordinating with other teams when problems occur.

Develops, tests and maintains a disaster recovery plan, including local and offsite repositories.

Supports applications development project teams with the development of test servers, testing new system configurations and consulting on difficult system performance issues.

Tests, evaluates, and implements network hardware and software to determine compatibility with current systems. Scope includes installation and maintenance of IP phone, video conference displays, routers, modems, switches, and wireless access points.

Performs equipment reviews, development of maintenance histories, management and maintenance of hardware inventories.

Supports site upgrades, site inspections, site audits, or other site evaluations.

Develops and maintains system documentation. Develops and monitors policies and standards for allocation related to the use of computing resources.

Develops network, news, and host security policies. Assigns passwords and monitors uses of resources.

Monitors network traffic and makes necessary recommendations for additional resources or hardware.

Performs system backups and recovery.

Provides guidance to less experienced Systems Administrators.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related discipline plus 5 to 7 years of directly related experience.  Master’s degree preferred.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by 
market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Ability to manage SQL servers and administer Windows 10 and Linux systems

Ability to create and deploy Docker containers desired

Excellent interpersonal skills.

Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.

Strong knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in systems administration.

Related technical certifications may be required.

Ability to obtain a security clearance of an appropriate level.
