Job Description

The Sr. Systems Engineer is a member of the Navy Continuous Training Environment’s (NCTE) Instrumentation, Communications and Electronic Warfare (ICE) Engineering Team and provides direct support to the ICE Engineering Lead. The ICE Engineering Division provides fully integrated enhancement and sustainment engineering support for the Navy’s Live, Virtual, and Constructive (LVC) training ranges. Specific duties include support of engineering tasking for all sites and components of the Navy’s LVC Training environment. Those engineering support requirements include system development and deployment, integration of system modifications, range modernization and new facility build-ups.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Support customers in the development, acquisition, and sustainment activities of complex computer systems used in Communications, Instrumentation, Tracking, Radar Systems, Information Operations, and Electronic Warfare.
  • Provide technical assessment of customer requirements providing design and development solutions.
  • Ensure project development complies with client requirements and government standards through formal validation and verification methods.
  • Develop, design and implement plans to integrate newly delivered systems into current systems architecture.
  • Research, develop and present technical reports on engineering studies and analyses.
  • Provide Project Management on assigned tasking.
  • Coordinate reviews, meetings and test activities for assigned programs and work to support program needs.
  • Use industry standard measurement and diagnostic tools to test, validate, align and adjust equipment.
  • Validate system operations procedures for product baselines
  • Submit, manage and track requests made in the integrated logistics system.
  • Perform modeling and simulation to validate and support product designs.
  • Create, revise and deliver manuals and other documentation in support of the end users, maintainers and project requirement.
  • Submit and provide input to the configuration management Team to support project tracking.
  • Provide mentoring and leadership for junior Engineering staff.
  • Research vendor equipment and develop equipment lists for procurement of hardware, software, and other resources as required for development and implementation.
  • Perform corrective and preventative maintenance on computers, networks, and systems.
  • Some travel can be expected both inside and outside the continental United States.
  • Perform other duties as assigned.

Preferred Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Bachelor’s Degree and 5-7 years of experience in Electrical Engineering, Computer Engineering,  Systems Engineering or related discipline,  or Master’s Degree and 3-5 years of experience
  • Knowledge of IP network fundamentals including IP address, multicast, OSI model, and Ethernet packet structure.
  • Ability to perform physical installation, corrective, and preventative maintenance of networks, computer, and systems.
  • Experience with configuring applications on Windows and Linux operating systems including patches, updates, and configuration files.
  • Knowledge of RAID, Virtual Machines, and Hypervisors.
  • Familiarity with:
      • HBSS or similar Host-based Intrusion Prevention System
      • Active Directory, Group Policy, User Account management, and general System Administration utilities
      • Wireshark, tcpdump, or similar packet capture software
      • NSA Type 1 cryptographic devices and Keymat.
      • VoIP technologies and systems
  • Possess ability to visualize overall systems architecture and conceptualize, propose and document technical solutions.
  • Possess technical network troubleshooting skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues within multiple systems, environments, and IP networks.

Certifications:

Security + CE or able to obtain within 90 days of employment

One or more of the following OS Certification, or able to obtain within 90 days of employment:

        CCNA

        Microsoft MTA, MCSA, or MCSE

        CompTIA Linux+, or Red Hat RHCT

* Candidates with certifications from multiple categories highly preferred
