Job Description

Alion Science and Technology is looking for a qualified individual to fill the role of a Technical Project Engineer for their Advanced Modeling and Simulation Technical Operation. This person will interact directly with customers and lead integrated project teams to complete projects. This role primarily focuses on managing software development related projects that will design, develop, test, and deploy our simulation software to training sites and shipboard systems.  This position requires an understanding of the Software Development Life Cycle and transitions between the steps in relation to project execution. In addition, responsibilities include:

  • Assist in the definition of project scope and objectives, involving all relevant stakeholders and ensuring technical feasibility
  • Determining project responsibilities through the project lifecycle including planning, execution, and closeout in a mixed Integrated Product Team environment.
  • Preparing project status reports by collecting, analyzing, and summarizing information and trends; recommending actions
  • Performing risk management to minimize project risks and communicating mitigations to project stakeholders
  • Ensuring that project management and organizational processes are followed including collecting all project metrics as required

Basic Qualifications

  • B.S./B.A. and 5+ years of experience or M.S./M.A. and 3+ years of experience
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.
  • Experience working in both traditional Waterfall and Agile software project environments
  • Experience executing complex projects
  • Experience working in a government contracting environment
  • Solid organizational skills including attention to detail
  • Self-motivated and driven desire to succeed with minimal direction
  • Ability to work both in a team and individually
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills

Preferred Qualifications

  • Certification in Project/Program Management (e.g. PMP, PgMP, CAPM, PMI-ACP, PRINCE II, etc.)
  • Familiarity with Confluence and Jira
  • Familiarity with MS Project
  • Understanding of the Software Development Lifecycle
  • Experience adapting project management processes to improve efficiency
  • Experience working in a US Navy contracting environment


  • Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
