Job Description

HII-TSD is looking for an entry level Technical Writer to support the growth of the team by developing whitepapers, contributing to proposals, providing reviews, and building briefings. The position will research and develop new content working as part of a larger team and on independent writing assignments. An objective of the position it to create relevant content, update existing content, and proactively find ways to market our portfolio of capabilities.

This position supports the our Business Development and Capture organization with the development of technical whitepapers, technical and management proposal volumes, preparing briefings, editing and reviewing business development writings, and other elements of the growing the business. The focus of the business unit is to develop technical solutions for cyber security, cyberspace operations, cloud computing, DevSecOps, software engineering, electrical engineering, hardware engineering, program management, and acquisition support.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Write, rewrite and/or edits technical documents to communicate clearly and effectively technical specifications and instructions to a wide range of audiences.
  • Oversee preparation of illustrative materials, selecting drawings, sketches, diagrams and charts.
  • Translate complex data into user-friendly text for print and electronic publications, such as technical journals, user and training manuals, government proposals, websites and podcasts.
  • Gathers information through research, statistical reports and interviews with technical staff.
  • May be called upon to assist in technical or business presentations in such meetings as business or customer needs require.
  • Select or recommends use of layouts, graphics, drawings, tables, exhibits,
  • Consult with all levels of customers and company management to determine most appropriate schedule of deliverables and objectives for large technical writing projects
  • Develop and provide final technical review of briefings, documents, papers, conceptual, and analytical reports for clients.
  • Edit documentation for style, clarity, consistency, and adherence to company guidelines.
  • Create new technical documents that are complex in nature.
  • Conduct interviews with various technical staff to gather data for documentation.
  • Evaluate and provide feedback on draft documents and attends documentation reviews.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in a related discipline (English, Computer Science, Political Science, Humanities, Marketing, Communications, Information Systems, Philosophy, Data Science, IT, etc) plus 2 years of directly related experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities: 

The candidate must be a skilled user of Microsoft Office, especially Word, PowerPoint, and Excel. The candidate must be a proficient writer and have an interest in new technologies.
