Position Summary:

Alion Science and Technology Corporation is seeking a Test Instrumentation Engineer to provide Systems Engineering and Integration (SE&I) support to a major DoD Agency located in Albuquerque, NM at Kirtland AFB for operational test events. Some travel (<20%) to the White Sands Missile Range, NM and the Nevada National Security Site, NV as well as to the National Capital Region (Northern Virginia) may be required.

Responsibilities:

  • Independently develop, manage, and implement instrumentation plans and methodologies to meet measurement objectives to support customer testing.
  • Conduct research, development, and integration efforts for customer to maintain currency in state-of-the-art and emerging/developmental data acquisition systems and sensor technologies across the CWMD testing spectrum to ensure maximum effectiveness and to fill voids in testing capabilities.
  • Develop and implement rigorous processes to ensure new sensor and data acquisition technologies are properly investigated and validated prior to introduction into the customer inventory.
  • Develop test plans and methodologies to perform validation and verification testing of existing and emerging measurement diagnostic technologies and systems, and attend test team instrumentation (as lead), science, and test planning working groups to provide guidance on instrumentation issues and requirements during the test planning process.
  • Support test planning and execution process milestones by 1) developing and implementing instrumentation plans based on measurement requirements established from test objectives and reviewing the plan with the test team and experimenters; 2) assembling and reviewing a test cost estimate and instrumentation fielding schedule; 3) briefing the test team, customers, and experimenters on final instrumentation plans.
  • Schedule the Instrumentation Working Group (IWG) and invites test team members.
  • Provide specialized videos, photos, recorded data, and other time-critical products to the Test Coordinator post-test.
  • Ensure proper instrumentation resources are available for upcoming test activities.

Education and Experience:

  • Bachelor’s degree in Electrical or Civil Engineering, Data Sciences, Electronics, or Instrumentation related fields of study and a minimum of 3 years’ experience working directly with instrumentation in a test and evaluation (T&E) environment is desired.
  • A High School degree and at least 7 years’ related experience is acceptable as an alternative.
  • Knowledge of and hands-on field experience with electrical and instrumentation devices (e.g., panel wiring, flow, temperature, pressure, level transmitters, PID controls etc.
  • Knowledge of sensor integration, cable running, connectors, and data recording/logging devices.
  • Ability to select appropriate sensor sensitivities based on expected input signals in multiple signal domains.
  • MS Office proficiency and ability to work in an individual and team environment.
  • Experience in instrumenting Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear, and/or High Explosives test events.
  • Must hold US Citizenship.  Must have active Secret clearance with ability to obtain TS/SCI.  Active TS with SCI (or SCI eligibility) is preferred.
