Position Summary:

Do you have strong project management skills, the desire to dig into the technical details, the ability to help the customer plan their requirements, and the ability to motivate people? Do you have a background in vehicle or part manufacturing and an interest in the Department of Defense’s (DoD) manufacturing industrial base? This position is an opportunity to join a highly motivated technical team serving a critical part of the DoD!

This position is with Alion’s Industrial Base team and is in support of DoD customers. We are looking for a highly motivated team member to be the first on-site team member with Program Executive Office Ground Combat Vehicles (PEO GCS). You would be interfacing with the customer to understand their requirements, initiate new projects, execute those projects with the assistance of other Alion staff, and integrate new locally-based team members as the effort for this customer grows. You will be using existing methods for industrial base analysis work, developing new methods specifically suited to PEO GCS and their industrial base challenges, and coordinating with other parts of Alion, academia, and other companies to solve industrial base challenges.

Must be able to think critically, and extra data from online databases (such as DoD logistics databases), discrete data sources (such as data mining a contract), and reach out to industry to solicit information. Must be able to analyze problems from a manufacturing, business, and DoD operational readiness perspective.

Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Assist the Government customer to 1) execute specific industrial base project tasks and studies, and 2) gradually standup an overarching industrial base strategy with processes and data tools.
  • Initially, follow the lead of senior industrial base experts already within Alion. Within the first year, transition to leading the effort and being the project manager.
  • Coordinate directly with the customer to capture requirements. Coordinate with Industrial Base Team manager and Alion PEO GCS account lead to stand up Alion teams to respond to the customer’s requirements.
  • Manage project schedule and budget.
  • Initially, on-board new team members as they are hired. Eventually, transition to a more substantial role in identifying new team members and hiring.
  • Coordinate internally with Warren, Michigan Alion site-lead, Alion PEO GCS account lead, and Industrial Base Team Manager.
  • Collaborate with other members of the Industrial Base team and across engineering experts within Alion to execute projects.
  • The candidate must be able to obtain and hold a SECRET clearance.
  • This position is based out of Warren, Michigan.
  • This position has <25% travel.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering preferred. Other engineering or technical engineering degrees considered. At least five (5 years) experience in vehicle manufacturing or parts manufacturing with demonstrated project management capabilities.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by 
market survey data.
