Job Description

Alion is seeking Network Engineering support for a dedicated enterprise Navy training network.  In this position you will be a member of a network engineering and operations team supporting an enterprise Navy training network distributed globally.


In this position, you will:

- Operate, maintain, and troubleshoot network connectivity and infrastructure on a worldwide enterprise managed network

- Support the operation and maintenance of multiple networks across different classification levels and ensure continuous network connectivity is maintained to customers and sites

- Support the engineering requirements for the use of the network by customers executing modeling and simulation events, exercises, and war games as well as administrative use

- Participate and oversee the physical installations and network configurations at local and remote CONUS and OCONUS sites and ships, as needed

- Establish and maintain connectivity of an IP and MPLS network in support of modeling and simulation events, new installations, and continuous operation of the network

- Support guidance of existing VoIP Subject Matter Expert (SME) on the team

- Test new technologies, as directed, and make technical recommendations

- Document new and existing capabilities with Technical Note pages on the organization’s project management “Confluence” page, with documentation including configurations, network and system diagrams, detailed instructions, troubleshooting procedures, data flow diagrams, security layer descriptions, etc.… in order to inform contractor and government customer security leadership

- Be comfortable with and configure Cisco Collaboration technologies to include Cisco Unified Communications Manager, Cisco VoIP phones, Video Communication Servers (VCS), Controller/Expressway devices, Expressway Series (Core/Edge) devices, Voice Gateways, Cisco Unified Border Element (CUBE)

- Support VoIP requirements by implementing new capabilities and maintaining existing capabilities on the production networks, in support of existing and new requirements

- Serve as Project Lead, when assigned, for new VoIP capabilities and requirements, responsible for detailed project management, coordination with stakeholders, BOM development, technical documentation including drafting of diagrams, milestone tracking, and meeting notes documentation for customer oversight, from project kickoff, to Initial Operation Capability (IOC) through Final Operation Capability (FOC)

- Report on changes made to the network in organization’s Confluence page and trouble ticketing systems (JIRA)

- Assist Ops team with technical troubleshooting, as needed, when trouble tickets are escalated to Engineering team

- Assist with IOS and OS changes to network devices as needed

- Review and implement Defense Security Technical Implementation Guidelines (STIGs), as needed, to operational networks in order to maintain security posture

- Report to Division Leadership and government customer on project status, when required


Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, Information Systems or related discipline, with Network Security focus preferred, plus 2 or more years of demonstrated experience in network and VoIP engineering. In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted for more than 6 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.


        -Must have a current Security + to begin employment

        -Must have a current CCNA Collaboration certification to begin employment

        -Candidates who do not currently have both certifications may still be considered and will either need to obtain the certification prior to employment or, for the right candidate, within 90 days from start of employment

        -Candidates with both certifications highly preferred

Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

- Familiarity with the following protocols: SCCP, RAS, H323, SIP

- Experience in installing, configuring, and troubleshooting VoIP appliances, systems, and capabilities

- Familiarity with Call Routing /Translation Pattern /Route Pattern, Device pools, Regions, Calling Search Space, Partitions, SIP Trunks, and Inter Cluster Trunks

- Be able to conduct troubleshooting with the Real-Time Monitoring Tool (RTMT)

- Be able to troubleshoot using status messages on VoIP phone and verify network switch configuration for VoIP connectivity

- Be able to configure and verify Cisco IP VoIP Phones IP assignment by means of DHCP and Static assignment

- Conduct factory-reset on phone, as needed

- Be familiar with IOS-based Gatekeepers, to include configuration and troubleshooting using debug and show commands

- Experience with syslog analysis desired, in order to resolve technical issues

- Experience and understanding of Firewall and Router Access List (ACL) application and troubleshooting, as related to troubleshooting VoIP issues

-Strong technical network troubleshooting and critical thinking skills with the ability to troubleshoot technical issues within multiple systems


        -Must be able to obtain and maintain a DoD Secret Clearance
