Job Description



Supports terrain and 3-D modeling for training system development at the Air Force Research Laboratory (AFRL) at Wright-Patterson AFB, OH.

Develops geo-specific terrain, procedural city building, and 3D modeling according to government issued requirements.

Develops custom 3D building models, articulated parts, damage states and UV texture mapping.

Develops terrain for simulation systems from imagery and DTED data.

Participates as a key member of an integrated engineering team performing system development tasks, including the review of work products for correctness, adherence to the design concept and to user standards, and for progress in accordance with schedules.

Coordinates with team programmers to ensure proper implementation of program according to system specifications.

Typically works under minimal supervision and direction.

Regularly exercises decision-making authority.

Researches and develops prospective applications and products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.

Authors or assists in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.

Leads the preparation of technical proposals.

Provides work leadership to lower level employees.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in a technical or mathmatical field plus 5 or more years of related experience, with 8 or more years highly desired.

Secret security clearance.  SSBI within last 5 years highly desired.

Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.

Flexibility and ability to adapt to quickly changing circumstances and work priorities in a timely manner is.

Ability to understand abstract concepts in order to apply solutions to real training needs and requirements.

Ability to perform technical writing to describe software requirements and design specifications, including diagrams.

Desired Experience and Qualifications:

GIS data, orthorectified imagery, 3D modeling, terrain modeling/development or engineering/technical skills, simulation/modeling, trouble shooting and documentation.

Real time simulation and/or military training applications.

Working knowledge and experience in the following areas:

- Autodesk 3DS Max / OpenFlight

- Autodesk Motion Builder

- Adobe Creative Suite (Photoshop, Premier, Flash)

- ArcMap/ArcGIS tools for terrain building

- Knowledge of Imagery formats and elevation data

- MetaVR VRSG / MetaVR Scenario Editor
