Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Position Summary

The Air Quality Monitoring Field Scientist Lead is responsible for all aspects of managing the Air Program. This position requires a significant amount of travel (~70%) to collect ambient air samples over a multi-state environmental air monitoring network. Position is based in Corvallis,OR.

Responsibilities:

  • Coordinate and collect ambient air samples over a multi-state environmental monitoring network
  • Facilitatate and prioritize the annual schedules of data collection activities with participating agencies; in accordance with DOT regulations
  • Perform Air Monitoring using the PM2.5 equipment, NPAP-TTP Air Monitoring
  • QA/QC reporting
  • Equipment maintenance/calibration
  • Mobile laboratory maintenance
  • Completing required trainings
  • Maintaining professional and technical relationship/discussions with the customer

Education and Experience:

  • Requires a Bachelor’s degree in the Physical or Life Sciences (Chemistry, Physics, Biology) or a related scientific discipline and 4 years of experience;
  • Requires excellent written and verbal communications skills, the ability to think critically, and direct analytical Laboratory experience.
  • Familiar with health and safety standard concepts, practices, and procedures.
  • A strong math background to perform calculations and other data reduction activities is essential.
  • Proficiency in Microsoft Office and use of spreadsheets.
  • Position requires repetitive motion with hands, lifting up to 50 pounds, physically conveying an Air Monitor to the tops of buildings or sampling platforms, moving compressed gas cylinders, and visual determination of precise measurements.
  • Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable. 
  • Must be US Citizen; no sponsorship available.
  • Ideal candidate will have particulate matter, PM2.5, PM10, and TTP sampling certifications or experience.
  • Excellent verbal, oral, interpersonal, and written communication skills
  • Strong analytical, problem-solving, and decision-making capabilities
  • Ability to be flexible, multi-task, prioritize, and manage multiple activities simultaneously in a fast-paced, changing environment
  • Strong team player with the ability to both collaborate and to take initiative and work well independently
  • Superior attention to detail and the ability to meet stringent deadlines
