Position Summary

The FSR will work closely with Federal Aviation Administration (FAA) personnel to support the day-to-day operation of an Air Traffic Control (ATC) simulation and training system. The FSR provides scenario and playing area data and aids the FAA in the efficient and trouble-free use of the simulator.

Conducts or facilitates technical training for end-users. Gauges customer satisfaction and success of training. Sets up and maintains training environment including equipment. Prepares training materials. Maintains records of training activities and program effectiveness and makes recommendations for improvement. Interfaces with developers, subject matter experts and program/project managers.

Duties and Responsibilities

  • Performs start-up and shut-down procedures for the simulator and assists with system operation.
  • Acts as a Remote Pilot Operator (RPO) when the schedule of other FSR duties and responsibilities allows.
  • Configures hardware.
  • Performs system back-ups and replaces projectors and computer equipment such as hard drives and video cards when necessary.
  • Follows step-by-step procedures for acquiring and installing software upgrades and patches.
  • Identifies and resolves scenario issues.
  • Briefs FAA and contractor management on simulator performance and utilization (this includes troubleshooting, isolation and resolution of software issues and the evaluation of conditions that enable proper support decisions).
  • Trains customers (RPO's, Instructors and ATC personnel) how to best utilize the simulator.
  • Creates, develops and modifies playing areas and scenarios for simulator systems to meet customer needs.
  • Coordinates with training personnel to identify how simulator systems can best meet their training objectives before building scenarios.
  • Develops and maintains simulator utilization reports.
  • Gathers airport data from customers for Visual Database and Playing Area changes and, as necessary, submits Change Requests.
  • Gives demonstrations of Tower Simulation System operation.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and Experience 

Bachelor’s degree plus 2-4 years experience

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Previous experience working in an ATC environment and/or with air traffic control simulators. Minimum of four years FAA and/or US Military ATC experience may be required by the contract.

Software training experience desirable

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities

  • Familiar with standard concepts, practices and procedures within the ATC field.
  • Knowledge of computer hardware and operating system software similar to, or more complex than, the simulators’ hardware and software. 
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office products such as Word, Excel, PowerPoint, and Outlook.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Excellent customer service skills.
  • Attention to detail.

A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.  Candidates must be able to obtain an FAA clearance.
