Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

Conducts organic extractions using methods: 3520, 3545, 3550C, 3580 and 3640. Also may perform semivolatile organic analysis by EPA Method 8270 using an Agilent 7890 GC with a 5975 MSD run off of Chemstation software. This would be a plus.  

Experience with metals digestion by EPA method 200.2 and TCLP by EPA method 1311 is also a plus. As well as knowledge and/or bench experience with other methods including: cyanide by EPA 335.4, TOC by method 415 and Flashpoint by method 1010.

Defines and conducts scientific measurements on multiple environmental matrices including, soil, water, sludge, and fish. Records, evaluates and reports data. Performs analyses and trouble-shooting.

Responsible for the use, maintenance, and calibration of relevant equipment and processes.

Interacts with EPA staff responsible for monitoring projects.  Reviews progress and defines project priorities, schedules and objectives. Develops and maintains frequent contact with the Program Manager and submits weekly and monthly work status reports.

Assists in identifying opportunities for new program initiatives and follow-on tasking for current projects and participates in proposal efforts as needed.

Acts as task leader in efforts that are moderately complex in scope.

Qualifications

Bachelor’s degree in chemistry preferred or a related scientific discipline and up to 2 years of directly related experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 5 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills utilizing MS Word, Outlook and Excel is essential.

Knowledge of chemical/physical principles, theories, and established methodologies sufficient to perform the full range of duties involved in conducting environmental sample analyses, performing QA/QC, and reporting data via Element LIMS.

A security clearance of an appropriate level is required before employment to obtain a Public Trust Certificate.  

Under little supervision, provides analysis on various environmental matrices to determine chemical properties, composition and structure and in some cases investigate potential applications to industrial pollution. Develops related findings, conclusions, and presents reports to the client. Disciplines may include organic chemistry, inorganic chemistry, physical chemistry and analytical chemistry.
