Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

This position supports the Mk 41 Vertical Launching System (VLS) project within the Program Executive Office, Integrated Warfare Systems  (PEO IWS) Surface Ship Weapons Program Office (PEO IWS 3.0).

Supports technical tasking of the program office related to Mk 41 VLS electronic, electrical and computer system design in an acquisition program office setting. Technical work could be under the guidance of or in collaboration with technical staff from the program office, OEM, or government field activities.

Applies standard technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to provide assistance to higher-level engineers in the development of technical products. Typically follows guidelines established by precedence.

Performs basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system and technical product development. Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and the development of technical documents.

Has limited independent interaction with customers and typically provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under immediate supervision by more senior technical personnel. 

Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. May provide recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Qualifications

Under immediate supervision, supports the planning, design, production and maintenance of electric or electronic components, apparatus and/or circuitry for use in electronic devices. Conducts experimental tests and assists with analyzing electronic equipment to establish production and operation controls.

Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within his/her organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. Receives technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff. 

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Basic knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.

Basic knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

Basic internal team communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree plus 0 to 2 years of related experience.  Degree must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.

Previous government program office or a strong internship in electrical, electronic, or computer engineering desired.

Experience with CAE/CAD software such as Solidworks a plus.
