 Bachelor's degree in naval architecture, ocean engineering, mechanical engineering, marine engineering, (ABET-Accredited), or a related discipline; relevant work experience is considered a plus. 

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 3-5 years of applicable work experience.  Additionally, employment may be granted conditionally pending completion of a relevant degree program.  Internships with Naval architects or marine engineering firms is also a plus.

Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology. 

- Experience working with ship and ship system design principles and practices.

- Familiarity with maritime systems including, propulsion systems, fuel and propulsion support systems, ship's Auxilairy Systems including hotel systems, fire fighting and fire extinguishing, Heating Ventilation, Air Conditioning (HVAC), Refrigeration and Aviation support systems. Equipment and fluid sytems distribution piping knowledge is desired.

- Experience or training with applicable regulatory, commercial, and military standards and classification society rules desired.

-Knowledge of ship acquisition programs and processes a plus.

-Applicant must be highly skilled in both oral and written communications and be capable of productive and efficient work with limited or no supervision once assigned a task. 

-Applicant must be proficient with Microsoft Office programs.

-Familiarization with AutoCAD is desired.

-Candidate must have the ability to obtain a Secret clearance.


 An entry level engineering position within Alion has the goal of preparing junior engineers or recent engineering students for a Navy contracting support career by providing emphasis on gaining experience supporting a major ship design projects and Navy shipbuilding programs while preparing for advancement in the field.

- Review initial designs, developments, and analysis of new ships and/or ship systems.

- Assist in development of designs for current and conceptualized ships, systems, and equipment. Evaluate designs for feasibility.

- Review ECP packages for completeness and provide recommendations.

- Author and/or edit presentations supporting and/or describing ship engineering or process changes

- Assess compliance with regulatory, and standards.

-Interfaces with stakeholders and cross functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available for ship/system.

-Review qualification test procedures and participate in qualification testing and trials.

- Support production design and construction oversight and review processes to ensure compliance with product specifications.

- Researches new technology and/or development tools to remain informed of current technology.

-Travel Requirement ~5-15%

-Maintain communications with various NAVSEA commands and organizations including laboratories and contractors in resolving technical issues impacting (or having the potential to impact) the design or performance of the ship design or active ship.
