Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Position Summary:

Under general supervision, performs general engineering work related to researching, designing, and developing machines, mechanical products, or tools.

Conducts routine analyses and/or tests pertaining to the development of new designs, methods, materials or processes, completes required documentation and may provide recommendations.

Duties and Responsibilities: 

  • Perform basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system and technical product development. 
  • Duties often include the collection of information and data, performance of various tests, and the development of technical documents.
  • Apply standard technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to provide assistance to higher-level engineers in the design and development of technical products.  
  • Support senior technical personnel and project managers in various technical activities related to design and technical product development.  Receives immediate supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff. 
  • Interact with customers and typically provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables. 
  • Design, develop, test, and evaluate mechanical or electro-mechanical systems or devices.  May perform product development activities matching customer needs with product specifications.
  • Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. 
  • May provide recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines.
  • Apply research to the planning, design, development, and testing of mechanical and/or electromechanical systems, instruments, controls, engines, and/or machines.
  • Provide technical and/or operational support to projects and programs while exercising discretion and independent judgment in area of expertise.
  • Direct support personnel in the preparation of detailed design, design testing and prototype fabrication.
  • Provide design information to drafting for packaging documentation.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience:

Bachelor's degree plus 0 to 2 years of related experience.  Degree must be in Mechanical Engineering or a related discipline.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:

Strong knowledge of engineering principals, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.

Strong knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

Experienced in the use of SolidWorks and AutoCAD.

Basic internal team communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

Proficient in Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.

A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.
