Responsibilities/Qualification

 

Position Summary

Under immediate supervision, supports the development, operation and maintenance of technology systems. Assists with the integration of processes and methodologies to ensure the performance of the total system.

Supports senior technical personnel and project managers within own organization in various technical activities related to system and technical product development. Receives immediate supervision from management as well as technical guidance and training from the more experienced technical staff. 

Duties and Responsibilities  

Applies standard technical concepts, techniques, and procedures to provide assistance to higher-level engineers and project managers in the development of technical systems. Typically follows guidelines established by precedence.

Assists in the analysis of existing systems and the definition, design, and development of new system requirements.  Performs basic engineering work in analysis, design, development, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system and technical product development. Duties often include the collection and analysis of information and data, performance of various tests, and the development of technical documents and recommendations.

Provides configuration management and data management support for the inline production, Ship to Shore Connector craft.  Participates in Configuration Control Boards.  Assists in the review and compilation of waterfront changes, engineering change proposal, pre-engineering change proposals, and condition reports from the ship builder.  Reviews craft drawings and ship specifications.  Prepares recommended response/way ahead on contract data item deliverables. 

Supports the post-delivery planning process.  Participate in hardware and software physical configuration audits.  Maintains the post-delivery schedule and tracks SCN funding.  Compiles technical validation of trial card data.  Prepares/compiles work packages associated with engineering changes.

Has limited independent interaction with customers and typically provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables under immediate supervision by more senior technical and programmatic personnel. 

Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. May provide recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines. 

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree plus 0 to 2 years of related experience.  Degree must be in engineering, computer science, mathematics or a related discipline.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 5 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • Prior Navy experience, preferred.  Prior ship building experience, desired.
  • Must be able to obtain a Secret Security Clearance after employment.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Basic knowledge of engineering principals, methodology, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.
  • Basic knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Basic internal team communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel, , PowerPoint, and Access.
