Job Description


The candidate will be responsible for developing an Android Tactical Assault Kit (ATAK) plug-in for the Joint Personnel Recover Agency at Ft. Belvoir.  This plug-in will provide aids/charts through ATAK.  Some information will be available offline.  The information will be tailored to the ATAK user's location.  When connected, the plug-in will provide near real-tim data updates.  The plug-in will use the ATAK core for mapping. 

  • Perform analysis, design, development, testing, debugging and implementation of complex software application programs in support of distinct product hardware or technical service lines of business.
  • Define specifications for complex software programming applications and/or oversees the maintenance of existing programs to ensure continued performance and compliance with current guidelines and standards.
  • Perform all necessary aspects of the programming phase of software development including coding, testing, debugging and documenting using current guidelines and standards.
  • Develop architecture requirements and performance standards to meet customer specifications.
  • Participate in the analysis and development of test plans. 
  • Test assigned components and units, provide test results and recommends corrections.
  • Identify and directs resolution of complex hardware/software interface issues or other technical problems.
  • Researches and develops prospective applications and products and maintains current knowledge of relevant technologies.
  • Authors or assists in the writing and/or presentation of briefings (reports on analyses, findings, and project progress), project or task plans, system specification manuals, technical reports and user manuals.
  • Participate in the preparation of technical proposals.
  • Provide guidance to less experienced software developers/architects.
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.


Bachelor’s degree in related discipline plus 5 to 7 years of directly related experience or a Master’s degree and 3 years of experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by 
market survey data.

The candidate should have:

  • Strong analytical skills and attention to detail.
  • Ability to communicate software concepts effectively.
  • Knowledge of the principles, practices, and procedures used in software and systems development.
  • Experience with software development tools and programming languages.

A security clearance is not required but the ability to gain a SECRET clearance is highly desired.

Prior military experience is highly desired. 

Knowledge of Personnel Recovery, SERE, or evasion planning is highly desired.
