Alion Science and Technology is seeking a Senior Systems Engineer to provide systems engineering, certification planning, and subject matter expertise (SME).


Specific tasks may include:

    • Developing and managing FAA Part 145 Repair Stations,.
    • Development of ISO 9001-2008 and AS9100 quality standards procedures.
    • Process improvement, compliance & associated audits.
    • Significant FAA/DAR/DER interface, and Defense Contractor Management Agency (DCMA) requirements and compliance/audits.
    • Participation in Systems Engineering Technical Review (SETR) events to optimize operational capability, total system performance, and minimizes total ownership costs. Reviews may include as applicable: 
      • Initial Technical Review (ITR);
      • System Requirements Reviews (SRR’s);
      • System Functional Review (SFR);
      • Software Specification Review (SSR);
      • Preliminary Design Review (PDR);
      • Critical Design Review (CDR);
      • Integration Readiness Review (IRR);
      • Test Readiness Review (TRR);
      • Flight Readiness Review (FRR) (for airborne systems);
      • System Verification Review/Production Readiness Review (SVR/PRR).
    • Participating in Government and Contractor Working Group meeting.
    • Review of requirements, performance specifications, system specifications and design documents.
    • System/Architecture Trade Studies, to include but not limited to - system acquisition/development; Data correlation, fusion, and dissemination; Mission Planning; and Data standards; Modeling, Simulation, Test and Evaluation support.
    • Performance analysis of the system, functional allocations, synthesis and evaluation efforts necessary to transform an operational need into an effective and affordable operational system throughout the system life cycle.
    • Overall integration of all requirements in a manner that optimizes total system performance, quality, cost-effectiveness and supportability.
    • Troubleshoot operating anomalies using data review methodologies and/or automated evaluation programs.
    • Analyze data and solve problems; communicate with peers, subordinates and senior management.

Education and Experience

  • BS or BA degree from an accredited college or university in Aeronautical Science, flight training, maintenance training, Engineering, Computer Science, or Information Systems.
  • Ten years (10) years of experience in engineering management and supervision of a project in systems engineering. Airframe & Powerplant Rating with Inspection Authorization (IA). A working level knowledge of FAA certification programs to include the FAA supplemental type certificate or field approval process. Contractor Ground and Flight procedures as required to meet DCMA 8210. /DFARS Contractor ground and flight risk clause. Conducting modifications to DOD-certified aircraft following the AED airworthiness release and/or NAVAIR flight clearance processes.
  • Desirable experience includes integration and test engineering and Communications/Network engineering Subject Matter Expert (SME) support, engineering design/design review, quality assurance, aircraft maintenance, repair and overhaul, mechanical and electrical manufacturing and assembly, aircraft/parts certification, facilities management.
  • Must have active Top Secret clearance.
