Alion Science is seeking an exceptionally talented Business Analyst who will provide effective collaboration, facilitation, and leadership skills required to ensure optimal value to customers within the organization.  

The successful candidate will have relevant experience in enterprises analysis, requirements analysis and solution assessment and validation techniques and can quickly adapt to our custom Agile framework.  They will have excellent logic, situational awareness, attention to detail, a strong sense of ownership, and an urgent drive to make a difference. 

Agile business analysis uses continuous feedback and learning to prioritize delivery, minimize waste, and increase customer value. The candidate will be responsible for partnering and collaborating with internal team members and stakeholders to capture, communicate, and manage all requirements to enable efficient, incremental project delivery.

  • Experienced with all the techniques detailed in the IIBA Body of Knowledge and Agile Extension that cover enterprises analysis, requirements analysis, as well as solution assessment and validation.
  • Ability to adopt an Agile mindset.
  • Fluent at inspecting and adapting, applying feedback to influence near-term and long-term decisions in order to optimize value.  
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, Agile environment and to support multiple projects.
  • Ability to remain calm, poised, optimistic, and professional while under pressure.
  • Self-taught, self-learning, self-managing. Ability to identify, prioritize, and execute tasks and meet commitments.
  • Excellent listening, interpersonal, oral, and written communication skills.
  • Strong ability to communicate with both technical and non-technical audiences.
  • Ability to work with diverse personality types.
  • Create and maintain an environment of collaboration and communication across cross functional teams. Develop and maintain a trusted partnership with the Product Owners, business stakeholders, and technical team members.
  • Ability to act as a proxy for the Product Owner.
  • Ability to apply the MVP concept.
  • Coordinate meetings with stakeholders to define business requirements for new applications, reports, and enhancements to existing products, systems, and processes. 
  • Translate technical information and concepts into non-technical language.
  • Document data flow, system interactions, and business processes.
  • Define and document acceptance criteria that will be used by the team.
  • Foster Agile principles and methods for requirements gathering. 
  • Strong facilitation of discovery, sizing, and prioritization sessions.
  • Familiarity with planning horizons.

Education, Certifications, and Experience

  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Systems, Computer Science, or relevant discipline.
  • Fluent in all MS Office applications.
  • 3-10 years of relevant experience supporting teams within a complex, fast-paced, milestone-driven environment.
  • IIBA certification preferred.
  • Experience with MS Visio preferred.
  • Experience with Unified Modeling Language (UML) preferred.
  • Experience with Agile frameworks (Scrum, Kanban, etc.) preferred.
  • Experience with Agile tools (VersionOne, Rally, etc.) preferred.
