Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

Provides support to Space and Naval Warfare Systems Center, Pacific (SSC PAC) Enterprise Training Activity (SETA) customer. Prepares complex sketches, drawings and models on design projects associated with the training for U.S. Navy tactical afloat shipboard, ashore and submarine systems.  Works independently on the development of original designs or adaptations requiring very specialized experience.  May plan, conduct and direct projects or major phases of significant projects working with or taking direction from the technical staff.

Duties and Responsibilities

** Applicant must hold an active Secret clearance **
Draws structural, mechanical, or electrical features of related structures and equipment. 

Reviews literature, standards and current practices relevant to the solution of assigned projects.

Prepares sketches or complete detail and layout drawings from verbal or written instructions on the most complex projects. 

Calculates and lays out dimensions, angles, curvature of parts, materials to be used, and relationship of various parts to the entire structure. 

Creates preliminary and/or final drawings and models using standard drafting techniques using computer assisted design.

Confers with design originator, appropriate engineering and other personnel in finalizing design concepts.

May review completion and implementation of systems additions and/or enhancements and recommends corrections in technical application and analysis to management.

May supervise other Senior Designers, Designers or Drafters on some phase of design.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s Degree in Computer Drafting and Design, or the equivalent combination of education, technical training, or work experience and 5 to 7 years related experience with a minimum of five years’ experience in Drafting and CAD design.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

      A SECRET clearance is required for this position.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

      Related experience interpreting design requirements and preparing design alternatives with minimal engineering supervision.

Proficient in Computer-Aided Design (CAD) and/or traditional drafting methods.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
