Responsibilities/Qualification

Are you interested in the business and supply chain implications of chemical processes and products? Then the Alion Materials Engineering and Industrial Base Team is for you!

We help clients develop new products and processes. We help them scale up manufacturing efforts and estimate costs and production levels. We use our technical expertise, manufacturing experience, and supply chain prowess to conduct well-rounded assessments and give our customers the information they need to make business decisions.

Our clients range from domestic commercial minerals manufacturers to cutting edge Department of Defense R&D agencies.

Duties and Responsibilities:           

  • Under general supervision, analyze moderately complex processes and equipment for the manufacture of chemicals. Evaluate new and existing processes to identify improvements for clients, identify inefficient, and major cost and throughput impacts.
  • Support several projects (and therefore project managers) and a single team manager within own organization. 
  • Collaborate with other members of team and receives general supervision from management, task direction from project managers, and technical guidance from the more experienced technical staff.
  • Duties often include independent research of technical and market data, identifying test programs and facilities capable of performing the testing, and collaborating with consultants in support of the same customer. Team member will independently executes individual tasks, however, coordinates and combines own tasks with tasks of other team members to provide a collaborative work product to the customer.
  • If applicable to a project, provides some technical guidance and oversight to entry level technical staff and may act as a technical lead for limited aspects of a project.
  • Has some independent interaction with customers and provides input to project managers on programmatic and technical deliverables. 
  • Provide input and support to intra-organizational proposal development efforts. May have some exposure to and provide some input to inter-organizational technical and business development activities.
  • Comply with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties. Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems and applicable company procedures and guidelines. 
  • Perform additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree plus 2 to 4 years of relevant work experience.  Degree must be in chemical engineering or a related discipline.

SECRET CLEARANCE REQUIRED

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 7 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques within a specific area of expertise.
  • Knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.
  • Effective organization level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills
  • Knowledge of Microsoft Office suite programs, MS Word, Excel and PowerPoint.
