Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

Under general supervision, you will provide analysis on various matrices to determine chemical properties, composition and to investigate potential applications to industry. Developing  related findings, conclusions, and recommendations and present reports to client.

You may be expected to perform the following analyses independently:

Total and Volatile Suspended Solids - method # SM 2540E (Gravimetric)
% Solids by method EPA 200.2 (Gravimetric) and Total Solids by method # SM 2540B (Gravimetric).

You may be expected to perform the following organic extractions with supervision:
Organic Extractions in Water by method 3520, soils by method 3545, waste by method 3580
tissue by method 3550 and drinking Water by method 525.2

You may be expected to perform the following organic analysis with supervision:

Analysis of semi-volatile organic compounds - EPA method 8270

You may be expected to perform data validation using the Functional Guidelines for organics, inorganics and dioxins.

You will conduct technical investigations involving the origination or modification of method specifications and requirements. You will be responsible for planning, organizing and conducting scientific projects or phases of projects involving new or improved methods and/or processes. You will conduct moderately complex scientific measurements and record data into LIMS and evaluate data. You will be responsible for the setup, assembly, use, maintenance, and calibration of analytical chemistry equipment. You will interact with sponsor staff responsible for monitoring projects.  You will be encouraged to assist in identifying opportunities for new program initiatives and follow-on tasking for current projects and participate in proposal efforts.
Finally you will prepare and assist others in the development of status reports, technical memoranda, technical analyses or other outputs as needed.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in Chemistry or a related scientific discipline plus 2 years of directly related experience, preferably with environmental methods.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 5 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience.

Excellent written and verbal communication skills and the ability to think critically.
Knowledge of Microsoft Office: Excel and Word
Knowledge of chemical/physical principles, theories, and established methodologies sufficient to perform the full range of duties involved in conducting research projects.

U.S. Citizenship and be able to obtain a Public Trust Certificate upon hire.
