Alion Science and Technology is looking for a forward-leaning and technical savvy systems engineer to help us grow our local Colorado Springs business in support of the Air Force Tactical Exploitation of National Capabilities (AFTENCAP) mission. As our Chief Engineer, you will provide expert systems engineering guidance in support of various innovation and experimentation efforts associated with big data, multi-domain solutions, artificial intelligence/machine learning, and Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) mission areas. You bring a superior degree of ingenuity, creativity, and resourcefulness to the completion of projects of major complexity and you’re expected to spearhead innovative solutions going beyond the existing boundaries of technology for AFTENCAP. You’ll be the primary resource for advising senior Government leadership and decision makers on the efficacy of innovations and solutions.

As AFTENCAP Chief Engineer, your duties and responsibilities will be:

  • Ensuring the technical integrity of mission concepts, approaches, and analyses, at all levels of the system throughout the lifecycle. This includes architecture development, requirements analysis, concepts of operation, interfaces, hardware and software design, acquisition, integration, validation, and verification. You’re an expert in leading hardware and software integration, systems engineering, and networking activities to deliver a quality system which meets or exceeds customer expectations.
  • Overseeing and performing highly complex and advanced engineering work associated with the design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of solution development, engineering analysis and research for multiple efforts.
  • Serving as the definitive technical authority for all aspects of engineering on all elements (hardware/software/support/test) and lead a multi-disciplined engineering team managing the technical performance of the program meeting technical requirements including subcontracted elements. Coordinate requirements development, hardware/software design, verification, and validation activities.
  • Advising the technical staff in developing appropriate approaches to complex or technically difficult tasks and apply appropriate corrects. 
  • Preparing and presenting briefings to customers and sponsors on unique technical contributions planned, in progress, or projected in Alion's support to AFTENCAP.
  • Performing business development activities and may interface directly with senior level customer management. Work with senior management, engineers, and customer on all technical and scientific matters.

Required Education and Experience

  • Bachelor's degree and 15+ years of prior relevant experience. Master’s degree in Engineering preferred with 10+ years of prior technical and leadership experience, with demonstrated expertise in systems integration.
  • Cleared for TS Information and eligible for access to SCI by the Central Clearance Facility (CCF) based on a single scope background investigation.
  • Experience with the full systems engineering life-cycle to include requirements definition, architecture, detailed design, test, deployment, and training.
  • Experience crafting technical strategies, approaches, or architectures supporting cutting-edge development and program growth efforts.
  • Position resides in Colorado Springs, CO.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Experience working as a Senior Level Engineer in one or more of the disciplines related to multi-domain situational awareness and/or command and control, artificial intelligence, and large data analytics and visualization.
  • Mission Knowledge of AFTENCAP and current technical solutions.
  • Expert knowledge of engineering principles, methods, and techniques.
  • Excellent communication, presentation and interpersonal skills and the ability to interface with all levels of customers, employees, teammates and management.
  • Demonstrated change agent.
  • Ability to work in a fast-paced, collaborative team environment.
  • Ability to build positive customer relationships.
