Responsibilities/Qualification

Position Summary:

Under the direction of the Vice President, Talent Management,  the Corporate Training Manager will develop and organize Alion’s training and development programs.  Insures that Alion’s employees acquire and maintain the skills required to meet the company’s and client’s needs which contribute to the growth and profitability of Alion.

Manages the corporate training and development function.  Performs the development, execution and evaluation of corporate training policies and programs, and ensures effectiveness through the subordinate professional staff and third party vendors.  Assumes an advisory role in the recommendation of policies and procedures related to all areas of responsibility for training.

Duties and Responsibilities        

Maintains responsibility for developing and implementing strategies, programs, and processes for the effective utilization of the organization’s human capital.  Manages and ensures the timely completion of specific, defined multi–discipline programs or projects of moderate complexity and scope.

Manages the relationship cycle with learning and development vendors.  Identifies, qualifies, selects, and monitors vendors and suppliers and negotiate final contracts.

Interfaces with various internal clients and teams to assess development needs and effectiveness of established programs.  Interacts with functional organizations to develop specifications for content of courses.  Prepares project plans, including the method, media, and documentation to be presented.

Manages the design and delivery and continuous improvement of the New Hire Training programs as well as on-going learning opportunities across the organization, in support of the organization’s needs.

Plans, develops and executes the implementation and administration of corporate training and development strategy and policies to effectively meet corporate strategic goals and objectives.

Develops and identifies cost and time effective methods of developing and delivering supervisory/management training, work skills training, team building and communications training, and diversity training necessary to meet and maintain the high quality background and knowledge necessary to meet Alion’s, and its clients’ needs.

Performs needs assessments, develops and delivers courses/programs to meet identified needs, and conducts program evaluations of effectiveness. 

Ensures new employees receive appropriate orientation, conducts diversity training to ensure EEO/AA/OFCCP compliance, and the provision of all training and development services ensuring that corporate policy, goals and objectives are satisfied.

Provides corporate management with direct consultation on training and development issues through the Vice President, Talent Management and the Chief Human Capital Officer.

May select, direct, train, develop, and mentor professional staff in this area.

Education and Experience

Bachelor’s degree in related field plus 5 years progressive experience in industrial and government-related training at the senior professional and management level.

SHRM or other recognized HR/Training certifications preferred.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for equivalent work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by
market survey data.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

In depth knowledge of training functions with practical experience at senior levels, and demonstrated accomplishment in needs assessment, course development and delivery, and program evaluation.

Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.
    
Abstract thinking abilities; ability to understand complex and competing information.

Experience in managing, motivating and developing staff.
