The Navy Continuous Training Environment (NCTE) Cyber Defense Engineer is responsible for evaluation of all cybersecurity defenses and providing engineering support, oversight and solutions development to ensure the Navy’s Enterprise Tactical Training Network (NETTN) is protected from internal and external threats and meets all applicable DoD/DoN compliance criteria. 

Responsibilities include:

•         Providing oversight and solutions development for IT boundary defenses (web/email proxies, reverse web proxies, DMZ services, etc.),

•         Evaluation and assessment of current vulnerability management solutions and processes.  Provide direction and oversight for process improvement and implement status reporting methodology

•         Work closely with Network Engineering division to ensure IT cyber defense solutions compliment current IDS/IPS solutions.

•         Assist in development and deployment of a secure VPN solution.

•         Work closely with HBSS team to develop exceptions and policies for non-standard IT solutions.

•         Other cyber defense efforts as required.


Bachelor’s degree in Computer Information Systems or related discipline, or equivalent education and experience.

•         5 + years of experience in managing Cyber defense technologies (SMS/SCCM, proxies, HBSS, firewall administration, etc.)

•         Experience with Microsoft WSUS, Shavlik or SMS/SCCM

•         Experience with Windows Servers 2012R2/2016,

•         Windows desktop operating systems (WIN10 SHB)

•         Experience digesting and implementing DoD Security Technical Implementation Guides (STIG)

•         Experience with patching Microsoft servers and workstations

•         Experience with HBSS

•         Strong technical troubleshooting skills

•         Ability to read and digest technical information

•         Ability to troubleshoot technical issues within multiple systems

•         Strong attention to detail

•         Strong customer focus, including the ability to manage customer needs and multiple work priorities

•         Must possess excellent oral and written communication skills

•         Experience installing release upgrades

•         Security + and Linux+ or Microsoft certification

Must be a US Citizen, currrently hold and  able to maintain a US Secret security clearance.
