Job Description

The Cyber Security Engineer will serve as a member of the Mitigation Projects Team (MPT) for the Air Force Cyber Resiliency Office for Weapon Systems (CROWS).  The MPT reduces cyber risk identified in fielded weapon system platforms through funding/managing Non-Recurring Engineering (NRE) projects that serve as solutions for known vulnerabilities.

Location: Dayton, OH

Responsibilities:

  • Provide technical oversight for multiple ongoing CROWS mitigation projects.
  • Analyze and assess cybersecurity controls of potential new CROWS mitigation projects to determine technical viability and strategic benefit to CROWS.
  • Report technical analysis and recommend changes to security controls.
  • Analyze technical milestones including design reviews and test plans from leading project stakeholder organizations (AFRL, Prime vendors, etc.) to ensure project scope is on track.
  • Write technical scope into requirements documents for potential new projects in clear and concise language, enabling senior leadership to make confident decisions regarding funding new technologies.
  • Participate in multiple working groups with a wide variety of stakeholders in order to determine potential new cyber risk mitigation projects.
  • Incorporate the CROWS strategic vision into all program activities and new project scope.
  • Document stakeholder technical scope expectations by drafting Memorandums of Agreement (MOAs) for new projects.
  • Create and maintain project artifacts to communicate status and address action items.
  • Perform outreach and form strong relationships with stakeholders and technical SME collaborators across DoD for mitigation projects.
  • Collaborate with wide spectrum of cyber professionals including CROWS Cyber Focus Team (CFT) leads and Information System Security Managers (ISSMs) for multiple Air Force aircraft PMOs as appropriate.
  • Collaborate with Threat Intelligence Team to facilitate tying mission risk to mitigation solutions.
  • Use fundamentals of program management to identify technical project risks early and develop controls to minimize potential effect on cost, schedule, and performance.
  • Lead productive stakeholder meetings through the creation of meaningful agendas and clear communication of action item owners with suspense dates.
  • Provide detailed technical presentations on potential and existing mitigation projects to leadership and interested aircraft PMOs.
  • Provide engineering consultation to Mission Risk Analysis Team (MRAT) and Special Projects Team on a limited basis as needed.

Qualifications

  • Knowledge of cybersecurity fundamentals and ability to apply this experience to aircraft that implement avionics systems that depart from traditional I.T. systems.
  • Operational experience (pilot and/or maintainer) with aircraft avionics systems including Stability and Flight Control systems, Powerplant, Navigation, Radios, Tactical Data Links, Electronic Countermeasures/Electronic Counter-Countermeasures, Aircraft Survivability Equipment, Target Acquisition Sensors, Armament/Weapon stores, and Mission Data systems.
  • Self-starter with ability to determine the way forward to create new projects and follow-on efforts for existing projects with little supervision.
  • Active Secret Clearance required
