Responsibilities/Qualification

Marine Engineer supporting DDG 51 Program Office

Under supervision, provide support to clients developing and maintaining U.S. Navy surface ships systems and associated subsystems.

Engage with multiple stakeholders to resolve DDG 51 trial cards and conduct research on technical issues on new construction Navy destroyers.

Review drawings, Develop Pre-Initial Change Proposals (PICPs), Review Initial Change Proposals (ICP): Engineering Change Proposals (ECP) packages for completeness and provide recommendations, waterfront changes, work items, design reviews condition reports and trial cards. 

Evaluate complex ship design changes and present summaries to government clients.

Review initial designs, developments, and analysis of new ships and/or ship systems.

Assist in development of designs for current and conceptualized ships, systems, and equipment. Evaluate designs for feasibility.

Assess compliance with naval regulatory and design standards

Interfaces with stakeholders and cross functional teams to ensure necessary resources are available for ship/system.

Review qualification test procedures and participates in qualification testing and trials.

Participate in Sea Trials and design reviews for ships under construction.

Maintain communications with SUPSHIP, NSWCPD, NAVAIR and other commands, including laboratories and support contractors in resolving technical issues impacting (or have potential to impact) the design or performance of the ship class.

-Bachelor's degree in mechanical engineering, marine engineering, systems engineering (ABET-Accredited), or a related discipline plus at least 2-4 years of relevant work experience.
- Experience working with Navy ship and ship system design principles and practices with a shipyard building naval surface combatants.
-Familiarity with shipbuilder program management and contractor engagement with govt customers.
- Experience working with applicable regulatory, commercial, and military standards and classification society rules desired.
-Knowledge of NAVSEA acquisition program and processes.
-Former PEO Ships or NAVSEA support experience a plus.
-Must be able to present complex ideas and create presentations for senior military and civilian leaders.
-Travel Requirement ~15%
