Responsibilities/Qualification

Looking for a Principal digital hardware engineer to lead high performance computing efforts involving ASIC design, FPGA utilization and baord layouts.  Expertise in high speed signal and power integrity modeling as well as all aspects of PWB design in a tool like cadence or altium.  Experiece with ASIC and FPGA design is desired as well as design, development and release of ruggedized hardware that includes processors, FPGAs, DDR memory and high speed signals is highly preferred. 

General Responsibilities:

As the organizational expert in the electrical/electronics engineering field, plans, designs, produces and maintains a variety of highly complex electric or electronic components, apparatus and/or circuitry for use in electronic devices. Determines conditions under which tests are to be conducted, conducts experimental tests and analyzes electronic equipment to establish production and operation controls.

Works directly with senior technical personnel, program managers, and external organizations in the planning, oversight, execution, and evaluation of multiple complex technical solutions related to a program¿s system and technical product development. Applies intensive and diversified knowledge of scientific principles and practices in broad areas across one or more technical disciplines.  Maintains a liaison role for technical matters with staff and customers, and acts independently on technical issues within his/her field of expertise.

Advises program managers on challenging technical issues, coordinates the use of senior technical resources across the organization on multi-disciplinary problems, and provides technical guidance and leadership to less-experienced engineers and other technical staff. Works within a peer group of senior technical staff to periodically review technical plans, results, and work products.

Recognized within Alion and the technical community as an authority in one or more technical specialties. Typically publishes professional and scientific papers and patents.

Performs complex and advanced engineering work in design, evaluation, planning, testing and operation in support of system development, engineering analysis and research for one or more programs.

Provides technical advisory and consulting expertise to programs and projects under development, acting as a recognized authority in the appropriate scientific field.  Provides engineering subject matter expertise, guidance and work leadership to technical staff and other internal groups. Serves as a technical specialist for the organization in the application of advanced theories, concepts, principles, and processes.

Serves as program technical team lead.  Prioritizes technical issues, plans technical approach, and works with program managers to develop schedules and staffing plans to support program delivery milestones. 

Supports program risk identification and management activities.  Coordinates the application of the organization¿s technical resources when required. 

Develops and provides final technical review of major technical reports, status reports, letters, technical memoranda, contract reports and formal briefings.  
Conducts independent technical investigations and provides impact assessments and design recommendations to clients.  Provides assurance that technical projects are performed in a technically proficient manner and ensures conclusions and recommendations are supported by the analyses presented.

Contributes original ideas and innovations to both solicited and unsolicited proposals that result in the expansion of ongoing programs or new program starts.  Develops related briefings and provides understandable and compelling presentations of technical ideas/proposals.

Complies with applicable quality and security procedures in the performance of duties.  Establishes and monitors standards for internal quality programs.  Provides recommendations for improvements to existing quality systems or applicable company procedures and guidelines.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

General Qualifications

Expert knowledge of advanced engineering principles, methods, and techniques in more than one area of expertise.

Expert knowledge of relevant tools, equipment, hardware, and software.

Excellent customer and organizational level communication, presentation and interpersonal skills.

A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.

Master's Degree + 10-12 years of experience
