Responsibilities/Qualification

Responsibilities:

The Lead Electrical Engineer will support two major Shipbuilding program under PMS385 and be responsible for the following:

  • Provide engineering support to Ship Design Manager.
  • Provide expertise in multiple disciplines (i.e. Electrical Generation and Power Distribution, C5ISR (Command, Control, Communications, Computers, Combat Systems, Intelligence, Surveillance, and Reconnaissance)).
  • Develop, review, comment/modify, as necessary, ship specifications and drawings to resolve construction technical issues.
  • Liaise between SDM, NAVSEA PM, shipbuilder, SUPSHIP, and applicable OEMs to resolve system technical clarifications.
  • Perform design reviews, calculations, and participate in technical working groups.
  • Develop technical reports/briefs on design engineering issues and corrective actions.

Qualifications & Clearance Requirements

Education, Work Experience, Skills, and Clearance

  • Bachelor’s degree in electrical engineering or a related scientific discipline plus 8 to 10 years relevant work experience.  Master’s degree preferred.  In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 15 years of applicable work experience.  Work experience may be adjusted based on education, or highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data. 
  • Project Engineering experience.
  • Familiarity with ABS, SVR, and/or IEEE requirements and practices.
  • Senior level understanding and experience with ship system designs.
  • Proven ability to solve complex engineering design problems.
  • Strong communication and customer relations skills.
  • Strong MS Office skills.
  • Active Secret security clearance verifiable in JPAS or the ability to obtain and maintain one.

Preferred:

  • Direct experience working in NAVSEA, shipyard, and/or operating a vessel.
