The Fuze Engineer perform research and analysis of munition fuze systems and technologies. Develop fuze technology tradespace and evaluate performance, reliability, safety compliance, and cost, of technology options. Work with government and contractor personnel from the research, acquisition and system safety communities, to consider relevant research, collaborate, and determine safety compliance of new technologies. Produce professional reports, clearly documenting system issues, technology options, analysis, and conclusions. Report to senior contractor personnel on technical status and issues. This work is in support of tasks under contract from the Air Force Research Laboratory Munitions Directorate, Ordnance Division, Fuze Technology Branch.


  • Experience/Skill Level: Full time - Early to Mid-Level Journeyman Engineer (minimal engineering years of experience ok when coupled with prior munitions handling experience). Or, Part Time – Highly experienced engineer with >12 years munitions experience, with fuzing and systems safety experience.
  • Minimum Required Education: BS in Electrical or Mechanical Engineering
  • Full working knowledge of munitions fuzing functions, fuze safety compliance requirements, and current fuze technologies, and the ability to apply this knowledge in considering and analyzing fuze technologies.
  • Working knowledge of Air Force munitions and system considerations for fuzing technologies, including munitions system safety. “Hands on” munitions experience is desirable.
  • Skilled at working with other engineers from various experience levels and organizations.
  • Skilled working with Microsoft office products and creating professional reports and briefings.
  • Knowledge of and ability to use engineering modelling, simulation, and analysis tools.
