Job Description


Engineering Technician Under limited supervision, provides technical support in the areas of analysis, verification, measurement support, and equipment characteristics.

Works with Government Engineers and design team to retrofit existing assemblies into modified assemblies using a variety of tools to include welders, plasma cutters, and machine tools.

Performs engineering computations relating to welding, machining and fabrication, manually or through the use of variety of measurement tools.

Collects technical data from appropriate documentation (e.g., technical manuals and internal and external reports), automated files, and other staff.

Perform welding and cutting in accordance with GOV provided drawings on routine maintenance tasks and new assignments.

Prepares necessary tools and equipment for welding such as, but not limited to shielded metal arc, gas metal arc or other welding equipment.

Operates manual or semi-automatic welding equipment and applies safety practice while performing duties.

Follows documented procedures, standard work, routings, and blueprints to perform safe and defect free operations.

Determines and interprets equipment characteristics data, performs necessary analysis, and transcribes to required formats.

After modifications or fabrications are complete - assists engineers in documenting processes / drawing changes.

Assists engineers in moderately technical aspects of project work.

Utilizes SharePoint to document work performed.

Designs and develops engineering sketches, drawings, graphs, slides, and charts for preliminary or final reports or briefings.

As required, verbally presents information at project review sessions and in informal interface with customers.

Complies with security procedures in the performance of duties.

Monitors the fitting, burning, and welding processes to avoid overheating of parts or warping, shrinking, distortion, or expansion of material.

Examines finish products and spare parts and comparing them with samples to ensure conformance with specifications.

Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.

Must be able to communicate effectively.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent plus minimum 5 years of relevant work experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology.

AWS and ASME Certifications in TIG and or MIG preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong knowledge of various metals used in the cutting, forming and welding of objects.

Strong knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, practices and procedures of the welding and manufacturing industry trades.

Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions in the fabrication and installation or repair of requested equipment including engineering drawings and specifications.

Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs.

Forklift certified or skills to become certified immediately after hiring.

A security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.
