Job Description



Responsibilities/Qualification

Engineering Technician Under limited supervision, provides technical support in the areas of analysis, verification, measurement support, and equipment characteristics.

Self-starter who can work with Government Engineers and design team to retrofit existing assemblies into modified assemblies using a variety of tools and machinery including welders, plasma cutters, machine tools, shears, presses and brakes.

Performs engineering computations relating to prototyping, machining and fabrication, manually or through the use of variety of measurement tools.

Collects technical data from appropriate documentation (e.g., technical manuals and internal and external reports), automated files, and other staff.

Performs modifications on existing cables, enclosures, and bracketry in accordance with GOV provided drawings on routine maintenance tasks and new assignments.

Prepares necessary tools and equipment for operation to include, welders, shears, brakes, presses, saws, and CNC units.

Operates a variety of industrial and electronics manufacturing equipment in a safe and efficient manner while performing duties.

Follows documented procedures, standard work, routings, and blueprints to perform safe and defect free operations.

Determines and interprets equipment characteristics data, performs necessary analysis, and transcribes to required formats.

After modifications or fabrications are complete - assists engineers in documenting processes / drawing changes.

Assists Alion and Government engineers in moderately technical aspects of project work.

Utilizes SharePoint to document work performed.

Designs and develops engineering sketches, drawings, graphs, slides, and charts for preliminary or final reports or briefings.

As required, verbally presents information in an informal interface with customers.

Complies with security procedures in the performance of duties.

Examines finished products and spare parts - comparing them with samples to ensure conformance with specifications.

Maintains work area in a clean and orderly condition.

Must be able to communicate effectively.

Education and Experience

High school diploma or equivalent plus minimum 3 years of relevant work experience.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for comparable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology.

AWS and ASME Certifications in TIG and or MIG - as well as solder and cable building certifications preferred.

Experience with Army Persistent Surveillance Systems preferred

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

Strong knowledge of various metals used in the cutting, forming and welding of objects.

Strong knowledge of occupational hazards and safety precautions, practices and procedures of the industrial and manufacturing industry trades.

Ability to follow detailed oral and written instructions in the fabrication and installation or repair of requested equipment including engineering drawings and specifications.

Ability to lift items up to 50 lbs., climb onto and off of large pieces of equipment, crawl under large pieces of equipment safely, and operate indoors and outdoors in a range of weathers. Further you will be directed on occiasion to work at our Bedford, IN location as needed.  

Forklift certified or skills to become certified immediately after hiring.

US Citizenship and a security clearance of an appropriate level may be required after employment.
