Job Description


Position Summary

Provides technical support in the areas of analysis, verification, measurement support, and equipment characteristics.  Functions independently or as part of a project team to provide assistance in all phases of engineering-related projects. Will be part of a contractor team providing submarine technical support for Mid-Atlantic Regional Maintenance Center.


  • Provide technical, assessment, and modernization support for SubLAN systems as directed. These efforts include, but are not limited to:
  • 1) Provide for administration support, guidance, system onboard training, and monitoring of SubLAN systems.
  • 2) Provide on-site support for SubLAN systems. This support should also include limited non-SubLAN client support and non-SubLAN laptops/workstations. Mentor and provide instruction and training to fleet LAN administrators in SubLAN maintenance and administration procedures (system backups, switch configurations, software configurations, etc). Conduct periodic assessments of submarine crew LAN administration capabilities and establish and provide ongoing periodic training to submarine crews.
  • Performs appropriate engineering computations, measurements, and analyses in support of technical activities.
  • Performs technical aspects of project work either independently or jointly with engineers.
  • Acquires and reviews technical data from appropriate documentation (e.g., technical manuals and internal and external reports), automated files, and other internal or external staff.
  • Reviews and interprets many complex sources of equipment characteristics data and performs analysis or manipulation to satisfy the project or database activity needs.
  • Designs and develops engineering sketches, drawings, graphs, slides, and charts for preliminary or final reports or briefings.
  • Assists in the training of less experienced staff.
  • Prepares written inputs to major reports documenting an engineering analysis and authors or co-authors reports, as required.
  • Verbally presents information at project review sessions and in informal interface with customers.
  • Complies with security procedures in the performance of duties.
  • Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Qualifications

  • High school diploma or equivalent plus any combination of relevant work experience or college education equivalent to 7 years.
  • In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.
  • (a) SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Preferred:  Three (3) years full time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of submarine electrical and or electronic systems/equipment.
  • (b) GENERAL EXPERIENCE Preferred:  Five (5) years full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of electrical/electronic systems/equipment.
  • Prior service aboard submarines or experience with submarine systems highly desirable.
  • Must be able to communicate effectively.
  • Candidate must possess or be eligible for immediate upgrade to SECRET upon employment
  • Must be familiar with submarine maintenance brokering; electronics background.
