Responsibilities/Qualification

Provides technical support in the areas of analysis, verification, measurement support, and equipment characteristics.  Functions independently or as part of a project team to provide assistance in all phases of engineering-related projects.

Separate positions are available with focus in Electronic Warfare, Optics, and Radars. See below for desired experience.

ENGINEERING TECHNICIAN IV (Key Labor Category):  The Engineering Technician V shall be able to demonstrate the following minimum experience:

(a)  SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE:  Six years full time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of submarine electronic systems/equipment.   Experience in evaluating the material condition of ship systems and implementing corrective action; and

(b) GENERAL EXPERIENCE:  Eight years full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of electronic systems/equipment.

*****Duties*****  

Provide technical, assessment, and modernization support for Electronic Warfare, Optics, or Radar systems as directed.

Performs appropriate engineering computations, measurements, and analyses in support of technical activities.

Performs technical aspects of project work either independently or jointly with engineers.

Acquires and reviews technical data from appropriate documentation (e.g., technical manuals and internal and external reports), automated files, and other internal or external staff.

Reviews and interprets many complex sources of equipment characteristics data and performs analysis or manipulation to satisfy the project or database activity needs.

Designs and develops engineering sketches, drawings, graphs, slides, and charts for preliminary or final reports or briefings.

Assists in the training of less experienced staff.

Prepares written inputs to major reports documenting an engineering analysis and authors or co-authors reports, as required.

Verbally presents information at project review sessions and in informal interface with customers.

Complies with security procedures in the performance of duties.

Performs additional duties and responsibilities as assigned.

Education and Experience 

High school diploma or equivalent plus any combination of relevant work experience or college education equivalent to 7 years.

In some cases, educational requirements may be adjusted or waived for more than 10 years applicable work experience. Work experience may be adjusted for highly specialized knowledge or uniquely applicable experience for positions involving new technology or labor market shortages as reflected by market survey data.

SPECIALIZED EXPERIENCE Preferred:  Six (6) years full time engineering experience in the operation, maintenance, installation, test and/or repair of specified submarine electrical/electronic systems/equipment.

GENERAL EXPERIENCE Preferred:  Eight (8) years full-time technical experience in the design, installation, test, and/or repair of specified electrical/electronic systems/equipment.

Prior service aboard submarines or experience with submarine systems Required.

Must be able to communicate effectively.

Candidate must possess or be eligible for immediate upgrade to SECRET upon employment.
