Responsibilities/Qualification

 

This position supports an intelligence community customer storage site with a staff of between 20 - 30 made up of both government employees and contractors.  The site receives equipment from contractors, conducts test and inspection activities on new equipment, on equipment being prepared for issue and on equipment returned after use.  Other technical staff build equipment components that support unique equipment configuration requirements.

Develop and implement tests using standard environmental test chambers/equipment to ensure assemblies/products meet mission requirement across the range of conditions the customer expects the system to encounter. 

Discuss test plans with the customer and obtain customer’s approval.  Interface with hardware and software engineers as well as internal and external customers. 

Conduct testing, sometimes at external test houses, and document and report on the tests performed. Currently, the environmental tests comprise primarily shock & vibration, temperature and EMC compliance, but may include humidity, altitude (high and low pressure) and other tests.

  • Accurately create test setups, instrumentation collection equipment and generate test reports.  Preparation of representative test systems including determining a suitable chassis, back-plane, test fixtures and other connectivity to allow the products under test to operate continuously during the test cycles.
  • Hands-on setup and testing for environmental tests.
  • Use of functional test software, with the ability to modify test scripts and read log file results, will be expected. (This does not include the creation or modification of software programs.)
  • Some problem diagnosis and problem solving resulting from the environmental tests would be expected.
  • Responsibility for ensuring that the environmental tests are performed according to the specification required.
  • Debug test chambers and test systems that are no performing properly.
  • Maintaining accurate and correct test records and test reports to a quality level acceptable for potential customer distribution.
  • Diagnosing and finding practical resolutions to technical problems, including an understanding of basic mechanics.
  • When environmental testing is not required, support test and inspection of equipment.
  • Leads a team that provides Routine Maintenance Repair Services for electro-mechanical equipment, including testing for functionality, inspection for completeness, calibration if required, and simple repairs using service manuals provided by the equipment supplier.  Requests support to evaluate and act on equipment beyond his or her capabilities.  Inspects and tests all equipment prior to shipment out of the facility and after received at the facility prior to it being placed in storage.  Documents Test & Inspection results.
  • Demonstrated analytical and hands-on ability to configure and operate test equipment and electronic devices as well as demonstrated ability to determine pass/fail criteria for customer and commercial equipment as prescribed in technical manuals.  Demonstrated understanding of electronic tests covering the range of audio, video, radio frequency and digital categories.  Two years’ experience with tests including, Voltage Standing Wave Ration, Effective Isotropic Radiated Power, Signal to Noise and Distortion, Sensitivity and Power Consumption.
  • Supports routine maintenance of deployed equipment.  Supports troubleshooting of deployed equipment over the phone.  On request, deploys to sites inside of and outside of the United States to repair deployed equipment.
  • Recommends equipment for turn-in at end of useful life.
  • Maintains Hardware Configuration records and equipment inspection/maintenance/calibration records.  Insures that Equipment location is kept current with the logistics staff.
  • Conducts briefings on equipment capabilities, demonstrating the proper use, inspection, testing and user maintenance actions.
  • Requires occasional overtime and/or weekend work.
  • Perform other related duties as assigned.
  • BSME/MET/Physics or related technical degree
  • 5-10 years of environmental and test engineering experience
  • Proficiency in MS applications, computer network environments and communications data link equipment
  • Understanding and meeting the requirements of military and commercial test specifications for environmental testing.  Understanding of Environmental (vibration, altritude, temperature, humidity, salt water intrusion and dust intrusion) testing
  • Experience of team or project leadership.  Demonstrated excellent communications skills (oral and writing)
  • TS Clearance with current or recent access to SCI and CI polygraph is required.
