Position Summary

This position supports an environmental laboratory in Edison, NJ.


Responsible for conducting scientific projects or phases of projects under direction. Conducts scientific measurements and experiments. Records and evaluates data. Develops models describing technical phenomena; evaluates available analytical models for application to specific areas of analyses. Performs analysis and trouble-shooting. Responsible for the setup, assembly, use, maintenance, and calibration of equipment and processes. Responsible for transportation of equipment to field sites.

Operate and maintain equipment in support of general operations. In addition, track/manage equipment in Tracking System. Perform state of the art multi-media sampling which may include preparation and shipment of samples. Prepare environmental assessments including review of available historical reference information, photographs, electronic information, news archives, etc.

Provide statistical analysis in support of field projects, reports, and technical assessments. Provide technical drafting support in association with preparation of field site plans, related technical and engineering computer-aided design drawings/mappings (GIS/ACAD) and geographical system compilation, utilizing approved standard software. Perform technical data management to support field activities, access technical information, and perform technical data management tasks. Prepare and deliver technical papers and posters. Present technical papers related to site-related work assignments. Maintain equipment following established SOPs, manufacturer's recommendations or consensus standards. Participates in analytical/field activities. The emergency response modeling capability shall be available on an on-call basis 24 hours/day, 7 days/week.

Perform reviews of guidance documents as they relate to monitoring, sampling, analyses, and modeling. Recommend options for evaluation and improvement of monitoring, sampling, analyses, and modeling methodologies for terrorist events, emergency responses, hazardous waste sites, oil spills, ambient air matrices, or indoor air matrices. Conduct indoor air quality studies, which includes residential vapor intrusion studies. Provide Personal Air Monitoring and/or Air Sampling on site as per 29 CFR 1910 (i.e., 1910.120 and 1910.1000, etc.). Ensure that all information and analytical data are technically sound, statistically reliable and generated using EPA site-specific methods.



Education and Experience

  • B.S. degree in Chemistry or related field.
  • Three or more years of relevant experience.
  • Must have a Commercial Drivers License (CDL).
  • Experience with EPA regulations and policies is preferred.

Skills and Abilities

  • Excellent verbal and written communications and interpersonal skills are mandatory.
  • Ability to obtain a Public Trust Certificate upon hire.
